Someone recommended her to me on another thread and I've been binge watching since last night. I've learned more about skin care in the last day than I have in 37 years! She cuts through all the marketing bullshit and explains which products work and why. Affordable products too.

I'm glad you like her. Dr. Sam Bunting also does some great videos between the two you can learn loads. Only thing I don't like about Dr Dray is that most products are US specific so not always available and now I'm overly intrigued by Vanicream because of her.

I've found the Emma Guns podcast quite informative too. Interviews skincare founders and beauty journalists as well as doctors etc.

Thanks Grawp, will check that out I keep meaning to look more into beauty podcasts after being a bit tepid about a few and that one looks promising.

I do like Dr Dray. I have watched a few of her youtube vlogs. She is clearly very knowlegeable and isnt swayed by marketing ploys. She also comes across as a really sweet person. But sadly I just can't watch her anymore. She is very very underweight and when she is just wearing a vest it makes me wince. And her videos recently have become very food based.

Coco....yes she's clearly got some health concerns. I haven't seen any videos that talk about food/nutritional advice so I felt i could over look that. As you said, she comes across as very sweet and knowledgeable. I hope she gets some support. I think Drs are so busy helping other that their own needs sometimes get overlooked.

I like Sam Bunting but she isn't the most natural in front of the camera, so it can make for a slightly awkward watch on occasion.

(Disclaimer: Of course, she's a Dr not an actress, so no reason why she should be 'good' on screen. Just saying sometimes the delivery can be a bit stilted)

Oooh I'll have a look. I really like Sam Bunting's videos - I love that she spent several videos on acne splitting it into cleanser, treatment, moisturiser etc and doing it all in very basic steps rather than over complicating everything.

The early Dr Dray videos can be very rough in the editing department too. I think for these professionals it's a tough balance to convey a certain amount of authority but still be the accessible YouTube personality. Personally, I much prefer someone who is a bit staccato and knows what they're talking about than the opposite.

Dr. Dray's weight is a bit disconcerting but in her defence, she does do cookery and vegan videos but none of it is promoting it as a lifestyle or as anything aspirational, it's more a documentation of her life (she is technically a vlogger, the skincare info is only gaining more prominence recently). Nor is she claiming it will give you fabulous skin, a certain type of body, etc. Whenever she does discuss nutrition she makes it quite clear it's not her field, etc. not as a free waiver that precedes questionable advice, she simply doesn't comment too much on it beyond how she experiences a certain ingredient/supplement.

I've never really heard her talk about her body outright, except explaining the types of exercise she likes. She was a ballet dancer for a very long time, not sure at what level but it sounded like she was into it quite intensely so that could explain some of it.

I like Dr Dray. She makes learning about skincare fun. But yeah I have to agree - she's very very underweight and sometimes you can't help but wonder if she has an eating disorder.

I don't, I generally don't watch the non-skincare related videos but sometimes they overlap. My guess is she's somewhere mid to late -thirties, I think I vaguely recall her mentioning the years she was at Uni and that was earlier than me. Plus I assume it's a longer field of study since it's medicine followed by several residencies before you declare a specialisation in the US IIRC.

I think she's also around my age. So mid to late 30s.

I know you cannot summarise, but what is the basis of her beliefs? I'd be really interested to learn.

Welsh-she's a dermatologist so her basis is medicine.

A few things I've learned so far

-what active ingredients are
-how to find them in cheaper/generic products
-nothing harsher than finger tips on the skin
-nothing warmer than tepid
-apply moisturiser to damp skin
-how to identify a good sun screen
-that parabens aren't a problem
-anti ageing is a marketing ploy, there's no such thing

And I've only watched a handful of videos.
