My glasses are so boring. I've had them for years. Plain brown oval type. Now the DC have sat on them so often it's really time for new ones and I'd love some tips on what's fashionable.

I've got quite a thin pointy face and long blonde hair if that helps.

I like the miu miu style in this link but possible a bit too out there??

Special that's it really frames are as individual as the wearers, yes speccies do a good variety and if that's what your after great, I tend to select 3-4 frames that I think will complement my patient and uphold their individuality. It's really horses for courses, and yes normally the first frame is the one but who likes no choice Grin

Singap0reSling · 26/08/2017 11:39

These are very similar to mine, mine are an older version, I've had them forever alongside others that have come and gone.

I can't see without glasses so don't mind spending on them, as I figure the per wear cost eventually works out very low... I have a few pairs of Lindberg glasses, super light and comfy.

hmmwhatatodo my current frames were about £280, plus lenses. Certainly not cheap, but as Singap0reSling says, if you need to wear them all the time, the cost per wear comes down fast. That's not to say I didn't feel a little sick when I paid for them...

I usually take someone with me when I buy glasses - I'm -6 so can barely see beyond my own nose - then I usually put myself in their and the assistants hands. TBH I've ended up with much nicer glasses that way than when I've tried to make a decision myself. I find it v. hard to pick new glasses simply because I expect my face to look like myself with old glasses so the change always surprises me. I think I would say also remember to pay for the anti reflective and anti scratch coatings!

I have a complex high prescription and last time decided to go down varifocal route too
I went for the best quality bespoke lenses from an independent optician who has won many national awards for customer service that was recommended to me
I have to have titanium due to allergies and chose some rimless stepper frames but the optician was amazing and designed a different lens shape and size to suit me
They cost just short of £900 but I am still in love with them a year later
I didn't realise how much better and more attractive the right glasses would make me feel
Happy to recommend to anyone in the north if anyone wants to pm me (I travelled 35 miles)
Their after sales service is amazing too!

I always end up in specsavers and ever find the assistants to be very helpful when selecting frames. It's also really difficult when you're short sighted and struggle to see how the glasses look on you!

Reviving this thread as I'm dying to know how Sevendaysinaweek got on at the Eye Company!

I had an eye test last weekend at a large branch of Specsavers, knowing I was going to need a change in prescription/new glasses. I couldn't find anything that suited me, and the advice from the assistant was nothing short of dire. He gave me the most horribly old fashioned, unflattering frames to try while insisting 'oh they suit you', I almost swore at him. Luckily I had my old pair with me which I know really do suit me, so I ended up getting new lenses put in them.

I would love to find somewhere I could get good advice, even if it meant a 3 hour journey to London.

Better late than never!

The trip to Soho is a bit of a trek for me but today I finally had a chance to go and pick up my new glasses. I'm delighted with them and have had lots of positive feedback admittedly mainly from DC so far

In the words of the clever man who advised me at the Eye Company: now you can start thinking of your glasses as a fashion accessory not just a vision aid. Highly recommend.

I also have these from Specsavers.
But I only wear them with makeup, particularly lipstick or they wear me.

Yes, what pair did you decide on.
I need to find a new pair.

Ooh I like them!

Sevendaysinaweek · 21/09/2017 21:12

Thank you! They're from the range that the Eye Company chap designed himself.

I could have been slightly more daring in colour but I felt trying a new shape was a good first step..

Deploycharitygoats - Just want to say thank you for recommending The Eye Company in Soho. I looked them up, saw they are open on Sundays and within 10mins I began the journey there from Gosport. Totally worth the effort, the guy is exceptionally good at doing what he does. I purchased my new specs and pick them up in a few days!

YouWereRight · 01/09/2019 22:48

I have these from Specsavers.

SpeckledyHen · 02/09/2019 08:34

I’m not brave enough to try these but they look fun
