What looks good? I need some new jeans for winter, I'm always in skinnys but they feel so dated now. I can't have cold ankles in the winter with turn ups, so what do I buy? You were all so helpful with my fake tan dilemma (ended up with vita liberata which was excellent, thank you) that I know you'll crack this on. I'm 5'5" and a 12 atm. Currently on a diet.

Is this true? I could get on board with nineties style skater jeans.

If you wear ankle boots with the shorter style you won't have cold ankles..

Kochicoo · 20/08/2017 22:00

Oooh, I can get on board with wide leg and Carhaart style 90s jeans. I loved them. I'll even call them "skater jeans", if that's what it takes. I'm game if you are OP. I love those Cos one and might have to buy them.

Puffpaw · 20/08/2017 22:45

Ok you're on kochi
dancing I feel I am too late to the ankle turn ups, I'll just look like a sheeple in my gang, I need to leapfrog to The Next Big Thing.
I know S&B can help me find it. At least the carhartt style jeans will be comfy if I get it wrong!

I can't not wear skinny jeans because i have a winter wardrobe full of baggy jumpers!

Baggy jeans are too recent for me. Just make me think of walking home from college with them piss wet through up to my knees. In that respect skinny jeans still seem modern even though they're ubiquitous

Strummerville · 21/08/2017 07:36

I've always loved wide, slouchy jeans. Found a brilliant pair in a charity shop last week on holiday for a fiver. Skinnies are best for wet days, sure, but my heart belongs to the nineties wideleg-tight-top look.

PNGirl · 21/08/2017 12:13

Flashbacks to ragged hems and wet ankles with those! I'm a 30 leg so they always touched the floor.

I don't think we're due a Next Big Thing in jeans yet. We had flares, and skinnies, and boyfriends, then they tried to bring back flares. I have about 20 pairs and every one is either skinny or boyfriend.

Floisme · 21/08/2017 12:34

I think we're in transition. Jeans shapes don't change over one or two seasons or even over three or four. It takes years because it's not just the jeans that change, it's your whole silhouette so they need different tops, shoes etc. It's slow.

I always like this stage because anything goes and you can pretty much wear whatever you like.

Me, I'll be in straight legs for the winter. (I love wide legs too but I don't love puddles.) What I don't know yet whether I'll keep them rolled up once the cold hits. But whatever I do, there will definitely be socks involved.

Puffpaw · 21/08/2017 13:07

Yes I am remembering the wet ankles! Not nice Confused

I have to say I spent a lot of last winter in Dr Martens over skinnies for ankle warmth and will do so again this year.

taybert · 21/08/2017 17:19

I really like the idea of something like those Cos ones but I think it's really hard to get the length right and they look better a bit longer and that often leads to sogginess. Maybe if I didn't live in rural North Yorkshire and spend most of my spare time with the kids outside this could work. Skinnies for me for now then Sad

Squashit · 21/08/2017 18:10

I'm going to wear my straight legs turned up with a calf length fitted boot underneath.
