Eeek so excited but stressing about what to take. My wardrobe consists of workwear or 'mum' clothes-leggings, jeans, long tops, sweatshirts. I do have more formal dresses worn to weddings and christenings etc but forecast is 34degrees! What would you take? Could stretch to 50quid to spend on something new.
Thanks

Primark shirt dress as can go from day to evening with a change of shoes, and good for casual strolling. Think they're about £15.

Sun hat - definitely needed, plus looks mega glam with big shades.
Lastly I would say some new lingerie. You did say it was child free! 😉

Rome is fabulous. I d imagine hot at this time of year (have previously holidayed there in July.

Have you some floaty maxi dresses ? I love a maxi dress / skirt on holiday.
Absolutely bring footwear you can walk for miles in, we walked lots around Rome - there s so much to see and do.

If you plan on visiting the Vatican you ll need something to cover your shoulders.

Jersey dresses and flat sandals.

AdaColeman · 20/08/2017 14:58

Take flat sturdy shoes, the pavements in Rome are ankle twistingly awful.

Take a cross body bag, not a backpack style hand bag as these are more vulnerable to theft.

DakotaFanny · 20/08/2017 15:00

I was there last week- it is blisteringly hot- floaty dresses are your friend!

Neverwantedthis · 20/08/2017 15:02

Comfortable walking shoes! You will walk miles and it is hilly.

I have callouses along the balls of my feet from a DAY in Rome this summer. It was feckin feckin hot. I wore Bermuda shorts as they cover chubby thighs and prevent chub rub 😂
Vest tops n light cardies
The 'style' is eclectic. The City is obviously rammed full of tourists so all sorts of clothing styles.
I have now bought fi T flops again as honestly, my poor feet!
Sunscreen that's clear and spray on, if you're going into Vatican City get there early as the queues start from crack of dawn and it's brutal waiting in the sun. Was 39 degrees.

No back packs allowed in the Basicila so a light crossover bag is best as apparently it's rife with pickpockets too.

Lots of beggars but they weren't genuine. This 'lady' had spotless feet and never looked up once. 🙄

Get a street map so you can plan your days, the queues for The coliseum again are huge, we didn't go inside.
Enjoy!

Be prepared for how hot it gets!

Don't wear converse, my feet were so sore, flat sandals were fine.

And if you doing a lot of walking round in the heat wear shorts! I'm a 12-14 and tho I don't normally suffer from chaffing thighs my god the heat and sweat made me chaff so bad I spent the tour of the Vatican tucking my maxi dress between my thighs Blush

Shorts + linen top/shirt + fitflops/comfy sandals

Linen or cotton dress + fitflops/comfy sandals

Huge sunglasses

Small crossbody bag

Have a fantastic time, it is a fabulous city. If you're going soon it will be very hot.

Recently back from a very hot week in Berlin. Comfy shoes (I took Trigenic Clarks such I got for under £25 on eBay) and I wore loose fitting light cotton t shirt dresses/tunics with leggings underneath as actually felt cooler than sweaty thighs, big sun hat, big sunnies and I picked up a cheap, big light cotton wrap to cover neck and arms from blistering heat which I also used to sit on on grass etc (I was very low maintenance but very comfortable), cross body bag and I livened up plain monochrome mix and match wardrobe with bright lips and nails. I took hand luggage only and mix and match grey, white and black stuff.
