I'm not a fan of the weird Jedi Knight white top underneath but I probably WOULD layer it over a long-sleeved white top in colder weather.

Worn over black leggings or thick tights with slip-on black trainers...?

Do you think it would work or will I look like I'm trying to drop 20 years?!

I'm 40 but don't look it (but I certainly don't look 20!!) and a tall size 10ish. Legs my best feature but I prefer to wear tights or leggings and obv the dress is an autumn weight so I'd need to wear something on my legs anyway...

I'm torn between loving it and thinking I'd just look silly.

Verdict?

Oh and if it's relevant at all I'd be wearing it for school drop-offs, just around about in the daytime etc. I'm freelance and in a creative profession so don't do office wear.

Looks like sportswear to me but would be fine with leggings for daytime/school run as you say

PolarisStar · 15/08/2017 20:14

Shocked anyone would pay £210 for it!

Not my style but if you like it then go for it.

Roystonv · 15/08/2017 20:15

Sorry but no and it seems expensive for what it is.

MaybeDoctor · 15/08/2017 20:16

It's a bit odd, but not as odd as I was expecting.

I think it has to be with bare legs and white trainers, personally.

JessiCake · 15/08/2017 20:17

OK thx everyone!

£210 is utterly ridiculous I agree.

I'm probably drawn to it because (when I WAS 20) I had the most amazing hooded dress that I loved and felt fab in every time I wore it (and back then I was so un confident I felt shit in most things so my beloved hooded dress was a revelation!)

Still on the fence but might give it a try...

Maybe, I love 'not as odd as I was expecting' Grin

Yes I think you';re right about the bare legs and white trainers now I come to think of it.

That's done it for me and I shall be passing on this one. With mournful memories of my old hoodie dress... 2 decades ago...

OP posts:
TealStar · 15/08/2017 20:20

Hmm, it's a bit odd. Not sure that I would feel particularly elegant in it.

MaybeDoctor · 15/08/2017 20:24

Stop press - would it be one of the rare occasions when white tights would work?

silkybear · 15/08/2017 20:39

Omg didn't see the price Shock

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/08/2017 20:39

Not keen on this, I think there are much nicer casual dresses for the same or less money.

JessiCake · 15/08/2017 20:40

Don't worry everyone, I have stepped away from the dress Grin

I realised I was just trying to emulate a look I loved 20 years ago.

It's a no from me and I'm grateful for all your opinions pointing me in the right direction!

OP posts:
SilentlyScreamingAgain · 15/08/2017 20:45

I think you should order it and see if it does make you feel like you did in your magic dress. It's worth a trip to the post office to return it on the off chance that it makes you feel amazing.

indigox · 15/08/2017 20:50

Hate it.

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 15/08/2017 20:56

Although, this one is a bit less sports lux and a bit more cool, arty sophisticated.

LoniceraJaponica · 15/08/2017 20:57

"Shocked anyone would pay £210 for it!"

Or even £84. 17 year old DD might look OK in it, but it is a no from me.

Nettletheelf · 15/08/2017 23:36

It's a bit rum. Even the model doesn't look great in it. You can do better! I bet you can find something that gives you the same confidence as your old hooded dress. Just not this particular hooded dress.

Nettletheelf · 15/08/2017 23:59

Just remembered, the Marc by Marc Jacobs line is designed by the dreaded Luella Bartley, who used to have an eponymous line. That's why the dress is so odd.

libertydoddle · 16/08/2017 06:31

I really like this OP. If you haven't completely gone off it I think it would look good with charcoal marl leggings. Depending on your height it may even work over dark grey skinnies.

Eragonsegg · 16/08/2017 06:33

There are some similar ones in Superdry that are much cheaper, and their stuff tends to wash lovely

Cring · 16/08/2017 06:34

Would suit someone with good legs (so you) and think it's fine for a 40 year old. Personally I don't like the style and seems overpriced for a sweatshirt dress but if you like it go for it.

Piratesandpants · 16/08/2017 06:49

I like it!

Undercoverbanana · 16/08/2017 07:03

I have a similar dress in navy/white. It was £3.00 from a charity shop (have never spent £80.00 on a dress!!!!!!). I wear it for work on its own with flat sandals. Really comfy. I'm a sporty size 8 49 year old.

Floisme · 16/08/2017 07:14

I'm really bored with dresses at the moment but I quite like this one. I think you should at least try it.

Highlove · 16/08/2017 07:20

Do t hate it but I think it's a bit teenage/New Look. It looks cheap to me. It certainly isn't £210, or even £84, worth of dress. I think you've made the right call. A nice hooded dress does sound fun though.

Is there ever am occasion for white tights if you're over 8?

Cherylvole · 16/08/2017 07:21

Christ no
