Body Shop Banana or Ginger shampoo & Conditioners. What's so great (or not?) about them?

TBS banana and ginger hair care ranges get loads of praise on here. What do people like so much about them? Is it just hype or are they genuinely excellent products? Any particular hair types?

I use high end shampoo and conditioners due to really sensitive scalp. I find that they are gentler. I like SLS free or low SLS ranges (SLS irritates my scalp like a bastard and dries my hair out). Also silicone free (fine/medium textured hair that just gets built up and greasy with 'cones). If I can find a S&C that give me gorgeous results and protect my scalp and save me £££ along the way (though I buy the spenny stuff in salon sizes for better value), all the better.

My hair is highlighted (naturally mousey/dirty ashy blonde). Dry lengths, greasy roots (shampoo every day). Sensitive scalp. Texture is fine/medium and wavy.

Has anyone tried these ranges and not got on with them? Why not?

The ginger stuff is absolutely excellent on my DH's sensitive hair and scalp. He's used it for years.

However, I don't really like the banana range, and I've tried them twice. It smells nice, but the shampoo is quite drying. I'm not a fan of too many silicones in products as they're just masking damage and cause buildup, so that is a plus, but there's so much SLS in this range that it's a bit like using washing up liquid.

Oh yuck. SLS is a major no-no for me Sad. Thanks for replying.

Ginger shampoo is the only thing that works for DH's psoriasis and very painful, red, dry, tight, flaky scalp. It helped after the first wash, where countless medicated shampoos and scalp remedies on prescription utterly failed.

I have "normal" (highlighted, long) hair and skin and have used it when mine runs out and it leaves my hair soft and in good condition.

Never used the banana one or the conditioners from The Body Shop.

Not as cheap but the moogoo conditioner is silicone free and excellent. I also like shea moisture products

I went into TBS today and had a sniff of the banana shampoo . Even if it was marvellous stuff, the smell would render it unusable for me.

Thanks for the moogoo & shea moisture tips, olivander.

In boots you've also got the kind natured range, Superdrug do one that's called noughty I think. Both SLS/silicone free
