I need a summer jacket that's not denim or outdoor wear, any ideas?

I have a summer jacket but it's from a sports shop, great for a showery day but not great if I want to dress a bit smarter with a nicer handbag. I'm also going on holiday somewhere warmer next year and would like a nice (inexpensive) summer jacket.

I've looked around and there doesn't seem to be anything! I definitely don't want denim as sometimes I'd be wearing it with jeans and double denim is not a good look.

Oh and not a blazer style jacket, that's too smart looking. Needs to be casual.

Can't help I'm afraid as I've been looking for the same thing with no success, I'm beginning to think it doesn't exist.

Scroll down to the green jacket on
www.elle.com/fashion/personal-style/a40387/caroline-issa-changing-jobs/
with or without belt.
A more olive colour or more neutral.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 10/08/2017 22:08

Thanks. I'm not keen on them. Khaki is definitely not me. I'm after something a bit smarter, but not blazer smart. Really not explaining this Grin but when I see it, I will know. Something I can wear with skinny jeans or a smart casual dress with a nice bag.

Joules have done some nice casual jackets but they didn't fit me very well (no boobs).

I used to have what topshop called a car coat - hip length, 60s-ish, 3/4 length sleeves, boxy/swingy. It was perfect and light for at least 4 years and then it was so shabby I really couldn't keep wearing it. So they can exist!

MaryLennoxsScowl · 10/08/2017 23:10

It was like the yellow one in this picture: www.sovintagepatterns.com/1950s-LOVELY-Topper-Jacket-Car-Coat-Pattern-McCALLS-8646-Classy-Design-Bust-32-Vintage-Sewing-Pattern-UNCUT_p_9492.html and was cotton so very light.

Or, as that's not helpful at all, would a cotton trench coat work? Topshop have some very thin ones.

Boden Florence jacket that's in their clearance. It's really lovely on, in navy.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 10/08/2017 23:56

I am looking at a more hip length ish jacket or a bit shorter.

Damn it! I've never looked at Boden before. I'm not keen on that jacket but 2 dresses have found their way into my basket! I need work clothes after getting a job and having nothing to wear for work.

I quite like this www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/clearance/womens-coats-jackets/coats/we564/womens-fitted-waxed-jacket but not so keen on the many brassy poppers. Shame as I love the shape of it.

Would something like this mint velvet jacket do the job?

Or this one?

Ps: if you want to find stuff left over from the mint velvet sale, put 'sale' in the search box. Loads of stuff will come up that you can't find by selecting the categories on the left. Top bargainista tip for mint velvet lovers!

MikeUniformMike · 11/08/2017 11:56

Not what you want OP, but I like the beaded military jacket from Boden. Fortunately for me, I have not been that impressed by the Boden stuff that I have ordered in the past so won't be buying it.
Thanks for the mint velvet tip.

Monsoon navy jacket

OCSockOrphanage · 11/08/2017 16:58

Hush have this which might please, and it's in the sale.

Bearberry · 11/08/2017 19:14

Tell a lie, I have it in 'stone' as per below link. Would say this is more representative of how mine fits, the first link seems longer and bigger on the model then in real life.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 11/08/2017 21:50

bearberry, I was going to say I think I prefer the stone one. I do like that, not sure how it looks undone, but really like the shape done up. Definitely not in the yellow though Grin.

PickaChew, quite a nice shape but the sleeve length would drive me mad. I have bony wrists and hate them sticking out of sleeves.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 12/08/2017 17:48

bearberry I bought the stone one today Grin. It's a bit shorter in length than i'd like but I loved it so I bought it anyway.

Ah wonderful, I find mine tends to go with pretty much my whole summer wardrobe! Enjoy Wink

Toast has some good, light jackets but they are pricey. E.g. www.toa.st/uk
