Help me choose a high end watch

For several reasons DH would like me to choose a really lovely watch.
I think I'm going to go down the second hand route. Have any of you done this?
I'm a bit worried that they might be either stolen or fakes but it seems that if you buy from a proper dealer that's unlikely.
These are in my shortlist, any opinions?

If you like the Cartier tank do also look at and consider the Ebel Brasilia . It's a fabulous watch. Been wearing mine daily for ten years now

I also recommend a tag. I've worn mine every day for years. It's totally waterproof so never leaves my wrist and still looks brand new.

I had the same dilemma. Considered Cartier (which I thought I would love on but didn't) Rolex (nearly got but feel every one has them) and Omega. I ended up in a shop and fell in love with the Patek Phillipe. It's quartz and a little more expensive than the rest but I am so happy with it. Resale value is excellent too!

I was very lucky to be treated to an expensive watch for a birthday. Originally I wanted a Cartier but I didn't actually love them when I tried them on. I tried on 20 watches in one day, Cartier, Rolex, TAG, Ebel etc. I picked the ladies Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra with diamond markers and mother of pearl face. I went for the smallest size as I have little wrists. I love it and get lots of compliments on it, it's quite unassuming on the wrist but very beautiful when you look closely

This is my diamondless rolex - I have something more glitzy for evening but this is perfect for everyday

The jaeger lecoultre reverse duo.

Another Omega constellation owner here. Diamonds in the face but not the bezel. Very understated watch. Goes with everything. I haven't found that mine scratches easily. I love it.
