I guess it's to imply that this clothes are v practical?

I don't ever seem to see people in adverts dressed as I do for cycling, on a bike. (pirate socks, cargoey city shorts etc)

Never mind that they are never wearing helmets.

I'm pretty sure that cycling along laughing like a loon makes a crash more likely. They really do need helmets, don't they ...
