DD frizzy wild curly hair - what to use on it ideas please

DD is 11 and has curly-ish hair but has sections that aren't as curly that go really frizzy. She has a chronic illness and her hair is prone to breakage and due to her health she isn't able to have it washed regularly.

At the moment we wash it and condition it and between washes will spray with water and perhaps apply some de frizzing product or serum. Over the years we have used various products but none seem to have had much success (The most successful was probably Twisted Sista products) but dd is getting to the age where she is more concerned about her appearance and it's becoming a bit of an issue now. Any ideas ?

Google the curly girl method op. Essentially you stop using shampoo and wash and condition with a conditioner which doesn't have silicones or sulphates (I use tresseme botanique or Sainsbury's coconut conditioner). A lot of serums aren't good for curly hair because they dry it out (alcohol). Cantu products are good (curl activator) and so is Eco gel (I buy the green olive oil one from Amazon).

A lot of curlies following this method don't use any products other than conditioner (not a specific leave in, you just use some of your usual conditioner and don't wash it out).

Frizz ease products are good as are 7 day straight.
My sister uses both and if left her hair looks like crystal tips.

I find hair oil the best.

Could you find a really good hairdresser who can give her a cut to suit her hair? My hair frizzes and varies in texture from almost straight to loose ringlets in different sections. I get mine cut in a jaw length slightly layered bob which is designed to look wild and messy, and style it with curling creme when it's wet and water or salt spray (or lovely twisted sista spray which I can't get locally any more) between washes.

Have you tried the curly girl method with no silicone products and washing with conditioner?

I have wavy/ frizzy hair, after doing the curly girl method, I have lovely waves.
I use palmers co wash and the leave in conditioner.
As a pp mentioned, my hair is cut to look wild and messy.

Curly girl method . I've been using it for 6 months and it has transformed my hair from frizzy waves to defined loose curls . You need layers though and a hairdresser that understands curly hair as a start. Then go on face book and join he conditioner washing group for tonnes of advice.

My routine is finger comb only when wet NEVER brush . It then co wash with Tesco pro v conditioner for a good 5-10 mins . Then apply more conditioner to mid length and ends . You can leave some in too . I've tried lots of styling products all curly girl approved by my hair is loving umberto gianni scrunching gel . Slowly run through hair and then diffuse . Then scrunch out the crunch !!!

That all sounds very interesting. I'd heard about the conditioning washing thing and I've even got a bottle of Palmers co wash that I bought when on offer as saw fab reviews for frizzy & curly hair but dd's hair was manky afterwards so I went back to other shampoos, as it's always OK after being shampoo's usually I didn't see that as an issue but i will investigate and definitely look into giving it another go. Thinking about it she will need a trim as has split ends. Which doh won't exactly help the problem will it!

I wash and condition normally and then comb through some Wella Pearl Styler, scrunch and leave to dry naturally. Helps define my curls and keep frizz low. I never ever brush my hair when it's dry!
