Anybody dream of buying a sewing machine and making their own clothes?

How delusional am I?

I don't want to make everything but just the odd thing. A jumpsuit or a dress. I see a very clear vision of an item of clothing in my head sometimes and I think it's beautiful and I both want it and I want to create it.

Anybody have a sewing machine? Can they recommend a good solid reliable one that threads the needle (essential). Is it useful for making alterations even if you're not Stella McCartney (I reckon my designes would be better than her :-p )

Nearly finished my sewing class. Making a bag. I dont particularly like the teachers style of teaching. But all over the place but its been nice having that "me time" tbh. Anyway, my own machine still needs to be dug out and tested. Going to do that tonight as have material and a pattern to make a dress for my 2 year old. Will do a test run dress first though

zoya, did you end up getting the overlocker? I thought theyd all be sold out but there were loads when I popped in yesterday but I am having second thoughts and may return it in favour of a Brother as Ive heard its easier for novices. But its so nice to finally have this one, I may just have a crack. I needd to make up my mind one way or the other soon before I lose the receipt and my mind is made up for me!

Anyone making Christmas party dresses? I'm about to start in the hope that it won't end up as a last minute sewing in my underwear effort.

I bought a tonne of ponte, Jersey, sweatshirt fabric a couple of weeks ago, when a local market stall was closing down. Except it's all black, dark grey and navy blue. So not at all exciting, but wearable.
