Racks of flammable horrific clothes!

You could say the same for the majority of high street fashion chains not just M&S.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/07/2017 22:08

I've ordered the Formula Ultimate Skincare Kit (includes a battery brush -my DD was hankering after one so I thought Why Not )

Includes the Ultimate Sleep Cream that I've heard good reviews about.

Not all bri-nylon tat Wink

Rinkydinkypink · 14/07/2017 01:52

Your not wrong. It is most of the high street. Racks of "that pink dress" were to be seen. I did laugh! Alot of people searching for anything but it was limited pickings. I

And Next, Warehouse, Wallis, Oasis, even the likes of Rees and Hobbs...

QueenofLouisiana · 14/07/2017 06:39

Apart from a couple of "fling on" dresses from Boohoo (for Lattitude this weekend) I haven't bought anything this summer. At least I bought those dresses knowing they were cheap and not going to last forever- at £6.50 I'm not expecting a lot!

The last thing I bought was a leather jacket from Sainsburys in early spring, it's already earned its price.

Yewtown · 14/07/2017 09:50

You know I am getting a bit fed up with the M&S hate on here. True many of the clothes have not been to my taste but then neither have a lot of other retailers. I detest the cold shoulder style with passion but it is everywhere. I went to my local store on Tuesday and got a couple of things that suit me. I just worry that this mob mentality means that people just write off the shop without really looking. Btw I am in my early 50s so there are few enough shops that cater for my demographic.

chips4teaplease · 14/07/2017 09:51

I'm in my late fifties and I am nowhere near old enough for M+S. They've had lousy buyers and no sense of style for about twenty years now. It's ingrained.

Yewtown · 14/07/2017 10:07

I think it varies from store to store though. My nearest one is definitely aimed at the per una brigade but the main one in my nearest city has autograph which are lovely. I am not suggesting they are perfect, far from it but I am not sure anywhere is. Everywhere else is just as bad for the sea of polyester and frills. The infamous pink dress if sold by Cos would have people saying it perfect.

I find that hard to believe. It's horrible. I've seen it online and in several stores.

Floisme · 14/07/2017 11:14

I'm a bit bemused too by the constant battering. The stick they got for the pink dress was totally deserved but whenever I go online I find stuff I like, especially as Yewtown says, in Autograph. What they do need to do is sort out how they stock their stores e.g. acres and acres in my branch for Per Una and a just couple of rails for Autograph.

I also like Cos and Toast so make of that what you will.

Ktown · 14/07/2017 11:28

I love m and s shoes and boots, underwear, jeans are great too.
Autograph is good, as is the cashmere.
Their displays don't help and there is a fair amount of overpriced tat but I would be gutted if m and s closed.
They just need to product less.

Itsnothingoriginal · 14/07/2017 12:39

I went today. I didn't think the reductions were that great - just a couple of quid off some things so you'd probably have done better buying during a 20% off weekend Hmm

There was a lot of knitwear left in my local branch and hardly any trousers or dresses on sale that I could see. As for the flammable fibres yes, absolutely Grin but did find a few cotton tops and some underwear for DD.

SallyGinnamon · 14/07/2017 13:08

Horrific Cos dress.

M&S have many howlers but so do lots of 'designers'. Emperors new clothes IMO. M&S just do it cheaper!

ppeatfruit · 14/07/2017 13:28

Yes there are flammable clothes everywhere, Primark shops' stuff STINKS of the fire retardant spray they put on the material. I hate it.

M&S clothes are in some cases better quality than some others, but often just the same. I bought some soft jogging trousers and they are made of cheap material which haven't stood up to regular washing at all. Same with their knickers now.

It seems to be that unless you're prepared to pay quite a bit more the quality of chain stores' clothes is not particularly good.

mrsrhodgilbert · 14/07/2017 13:44

I've bought a few things from Autograph this year, I think one of the designers is influenced by Cos. They've had a few good white cotton shirts/blouses. I didn't spot anything in the sale though. I fled from the bra department when I turned to find my extremely unpleasant neighbour right next to me.

I've bought a few things but all are items I've had my eye on all summer. A red coat from Hobbs, some red sandals from Dune, couple of shirts from Cos, two coats from Zara and some silver Ash flatform trainers and a handbag from Mulberry. Given that I might have bought all these full price and I really have been stalking them and will wear them a lot for the next few years I've saved a lot of money. Everything was thought out and will fit well into my wardrobe. I think there is good stuff out there but there's a lot more rubbish sadly.

ZaraW · 14/07/2017 13:49

I like that navy COS dress though not many people myself included could make it work.

I'm always a bit bemused by the hate for M&S they always have some good items though you have to search for them.

twotwofour · 14/07/2017 14:31

I can't get away from that bloody pink dress.

First the windows of EVERY M&S, now the sale racks, and now it's just appeared in a picture on a style blog / community that I follow hastily unfollows

When will it die????!

ppeatfruit · 15/07/2017 17:26

I'm in France and we saw someone wearing a dayglo pink dress (not necessarily THE pink dress) in a market, she stuck out like a sore thumb !
