Wedding dress advice please for a 51 year old

Hello style gurus, I'm hoping you can advise me please. I'm getting married next year in church and am looking for a pretty wedding dress that would be appropriate for my age and for a second marriage. I'm 51, will be 52 by the time we marry, am 5,6 and a size 10.

I've looked at lots of things online but not in real life and am thinking possibly along these lines. I need honest opinions about whether this dress, or style of dress is too young. Thanks to anyone who has any advice or recommendations 😊

I think that dress is actually too old for you, the styling is just a bit off.

I think you should get yourself to a couple of wedding dress shops, they will have lots of styles that will be suitable and trying them on will give you a much better idea of what will work.

As an alternate to the dress you posted this Goat dress is nicer IMO although more expensive.

Lucked · 11/07/2017 22:08

Actually it is not more expensive it's almost exactly the same price!!. Don't pay £350 pounds for the monsoon one, it looks cheaper.

MoonPower · 11/07/2017 22:14

The dress you like is gorgeous cat
Not too young at all!
Congratulations Flowers

catwithflowers · 11/07/2017 22:26

Thank you both. I really like the Goat one which doesn't look much until you see it on the model then it looks beautiful. MoonPower, I think your dress is gorgeous on the model but not me sadly. I am slim but with a 32F bust in need of serious support 😂 Am also looking for knee length (sorry, should have said) rather than a floor length dress.

wow, huge discount on the second dress though! 😄

Give the goat one a try.. It is stunning. Really great bouquet (with thistles in it - wish I had gone for them)

Cristiane · 11/07/2017 23:06

Heavens! I am 41, same size, height, bra size and I just got married two months ago... perhaps my dress would suit you?

Cristiane · 11/07/2017 23:06

Damn just saw you said knee length

catwithflowers · 11/07/2017 23:09

Thank you anyway, Christiane 😊

I think the Goat dress is lovely and young feeling - the dress you chose seems a bit old to me as well but sometimes dressses can look much better on.

Try the Goat dress, it's beautiful. Shame about the name!

Hope you have a lovely wedding, congratulations. Flowers

catwithflowers · 12/07/2017 07:15

Thank you Goon! I'm loving the Goat dress too! It makes the Monsoon one look slightly clumsy and unsophisticated. I may well have a trying on session soon 😊

A big thank you to Lucked for finding it 🥂

That second one moon posted, the Herdress is GORGEOUS.

RockyBird · 14/07/2017 10:25

I used to work in a bridal shop and I'm not a fan of understated wedding dresses, to be fair.

IME brides take on a different, more confident demeanour with a WOW dress, whatever their age/size. It's actually wonderful to see. Apologies for tangent Grin

Floisme · 14/07/2017 10:40

I don't like bridal dresses, not at any age. Sorry everyone, sorry if I've just dissed your wedding dresses but I can't stand all the fuss and frilliness and I don't think white is flattering to a lot of complexions (especially anglo saxon or celtic).

I think the two best wedding outfits I've ever seen are Bianca Jaggers suit (now there's a woman who can wear white) and the dress Sarah Murdoch wore to Jerry Hall's wedding - not a wedding dress and I'm not a fan of the family but absolutely stunning .

But then I got married in my 50s in a £30 dress from Warehouse so you might not want to listen to me.

Have ordered the Goat dress to try on. I'm hoping it might be lovely which will save me having to trail round the shops (am not one of life's shoppers!). Will let you know when it arrives.

When I showed my partner the link he was a bit 😱 at the price then asked if I could get lots of wear out of it!!! I must admit, the very same thought occurred to me. At least with the Goat one, I could wear it to a smart restaurant. Thanks everyone for looking and linking 😊

It is definitely a dress you could wear again. I wouldn't show your dh to be though. It is a nice surprise.

In time you could get it professionally dyed but it is a perfect summer dress and I don't think it is pricey for that type of occasion.
