Help me choose what to wear to a wedding evening reception.

We have an invite to an evening wedding reception tomorrow. I have no idea what to wear. Am going on a quick shop tomorrow to hunt something out. It is a hotel function, three star hotel. Would I get away with jeans and a smart top?
TIA

What about the three quarter length print tops that are very in at the mo? Go for bold print, team with boot cut jeans and strappy sandals...very smart but also can be casual if not everyone else is blinged up...or wear the top with black bootcut trousers....very flattering look as well

no to jeans

Beetrootccio · 23/03/2007 22:36

no not now

I really don't want to end up buying something that I will never wear again. Love the sound of the strappy sandals and bright top with jeans.

remember this on your special day

i agree about no to jeans. if you want something you'll wear again go for black trousers and glam top - then even if you don;t repeat the same combination you might, in the future, wear the top with jeans or the trousers with something less glam. personally I'd wear a skirt or dress. but I love wearing them

or - depending on how old you are (I'm too old for such stuff) you could go for a short tunic type dress with thick tights/leggings

hatwoman · 24/03/2007 00:03

lots of nice ones here

I'd love to have a figure like some of those models but unfortunately I am of the slightly larger build. Not sure I'd carry off the leggings that are finding their way back. Have to say I'm more of a trouser person that a skirt of dress person. Am 35 if that helps.

hmmm. don;t know why but I was thinking you might be younger. I have to agree, short dresses and leggings are only for the real slinky malinkies. a knee length skirt can be very flattering.

Thanks for your help guys. In the end I did go for leggings and a long top. Something I never thought I'd wear. I was adventurous with my "trying" on in the changing rooms yesterday. Well it doesn't cost anything does it? I was very pleased and felt very comfortable and very smart as well. I think because the top was so long it carried off the leggings well even though I'm not small.

that's lovely. maybe I'll give the leggings thing a try myself. the beauty of this whole look is your bum, tum and thighs are covered. I got put off it by seeing a friend of mine looking totally stunning wearing a clingy but still loose brown knitted top, with a loose belt and leggings. she's probably a size 6 and whilst I was I thought there was no way I could carry it off myself.
