I don't wear make up much but after sampling a clinique red lipstick belongign to my sister, she has took it upon herself to buy me one (she's dead nice). Anyway its not so much about whether it looks ok as I think it does, but o sampling it this am, I couldn't believe the reaction when I picked up my ds from preschool. I had to pretend i was going out for lunch cause i felt like an idiot. Now i have always been confident with my clothing choices but now i feel stupido and need some advice on when and where it is okay to where red lipstick!!

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 23/03/2007 12:38

Yeah but as cod says it's lips or eyes if you're being daring with either keep the other neutral.

CODalmighty · 23/03/2007 12:39

so removed eye make up and wore lipstick for the school run (not to be deterred) I am not joking, everyone who i made eye contact with commented, that included 3 members of ds class, one of which wanted to know i had painted my lips!! I swear never again, except on nights out, i quite liked it aswell!!
My friends would laugh, i dress quite bizarrely at times I suppose and don't really give a , but red lipstick has thrown me!
Its vintage red btw and very gorgeous!

With your colouring it would look fab. Wear it daily if you want they were probably all looking/commenting at it because you looked so good!

CODalmighty · 23/03/2007 20:13

ok have looked at you
i bet it looked fantastic
you are a lovely lookgin gal

Tinker · 23/03/2007 20:16

Oh yes, you would suit red lipstick. Especially with teh shades on - Magenta de Vine (maybe that'll put you off...)

southeastastra · 23/03/2007 20:17

blot it like mad then build it up slowly each day to get used to it

Tortington · 23/03/2007 20:21

i personally think red lipstick is to bold for daytime - and i can carry it off as i have dark skin - but dont becuse i feel self conscious. a paler more natural colour would be better me thinks - and has been said - with mascara is ok - anything more is too much.

red lipstick of an eening is fine.

deaconblue · 23/03/2007 20:50

I have always been a red lipstick during the day girl but haven't worn make up for ages and when I put some on the other day, it looked soooooooooooo red. I think you just need to get used to it. Wear it again. Used to make me feel fab and glam.

foxybrown · 23/03/2007 20:59

Ooh, wear it!

I love Lipfinity for staying put and not smudging.

Red lippy rocks. So do leopard print heels for the school run

don't be put off. Be glamorous.

Aefondkiss · 23/03/2007 21:01

I have been wearing red lipstick since I was 16, now I am 34 , my way of wearing it has changed, I wear it lightly now, maybe you just need to experiment a wee bit, I find lipstick can be a bit too bold, I wear mine quite matt and use a swipe of nutrogena lip balm to sort of lift it off, so it looks a wee bit more subtle, not too newly applied, iyswim?

when I don't have my red lipstick on people say I look tired, I feel naked without it, I don't wear mascara, and I think you have to be light with make-up when you are wearing a bold colour (saying that I am not a style guru, but I do love my lipstick).

if your sister bought you some she obviously thought you looked really good with it on, so you just need to get used to it.

quadrophenia · 23/03/2007 21:17

ahh thanks for your comments ladies, i think i am goign to reserve it for nights out, i have no tme for not feeling confident and it threw me today in abig way, i felt a wally and I can't be dealing with that good god the paranoia!!

You can tone it down with a touch of gold lipstick mixed in or do a multi-layer/blot thing. Can't remember exactly what I do but I always use red and gold together as I find it difficult to find a bold red that suits me.
