Help ... Trousers for work.....a simple request

Canadalife · 30/06/2017 18:32

Please help....I think I need collective wisdom. I am in desperate for a pair of plain trousers to wear to work. I have spent the day trying on all sorts and shapes of trousers. I am looking for navy, blue or black work trousers.

I am 56....yes ...really ....I find it v hard to fathom how that happened! I am hourglass not as toned, trim or lump free as I used to be. Usually size 12...5' 7"...10 10 weight wise. I have long legs... I don't want to look as if I am trying to relive my 20s or revive my 30s or pretend I am 40....but equally I don't want to do old lady. Ankle length make me look as if I am avoiding a flood...

Help help....I usually wear skirts or dresses because of this problem. I don't want to pay a fortune.

Thank you in advance...ps dyslexic as well so please forgive spelling etc.

Canada, I'm a similar age to you. Approx 5'7" , maybe 12stone at the moment, very hourglass shaped

I've bought and taken back approx 15 pairs of navy trousers this summer.
I just want a pair for work..so they have to be smart, washable, good fit, slightly stretchy (I travel approx a third of my working life and comfort is non-negotiable).

We went out for a family luck 2 weeks ago and as we went back to the car, we passed the Tommy Hilfiger shop.
I "popped in" and found a pair of
(Ta Dah!) navy, stretchy, slim leg (not skinny), ankle length trousers.

I've worn these every second day since :-)

Oh theinvinsible they look perfect, but I'm a 16 and they are out of stock 🙁

stringbean · 02/07/2017 18:15

Oh yes, Jigsaw Paris trousers are a great fit and come in navy & black BUT dry clean only, so a bit more faff. They are a thicker material - I wear them in winter.

leghoul · 02/07/2017 20:04

I've machine washed jigsaw trousers (the slim fit Paris ones among others) and they've all turned out fine, remarkably.
Also John Lewis used to have a range called Hepburn in some kind of crepey fabric that wore really well but not sure if it's extinct now.

Marking place if I may.

Borden Richmonds ankle skimmer are my usual summer trouser but I don't like the bunching round the knee.

Best ones I ever had oddly were from a factory shop and had the labels cut out so I never found out whose they were!

SpaghettiMeatballs · 03/07/2017 06:07

The Boden are all out of stock in thenon crazy colours at the moment.

I've ordered some machine washable trousers from Hobbs to try...will report back! £100 down to £50 in the sale.

AnnaNimmity · 03/07/2017 12:52

Me and Em ones are nice I think if Boden doesn't work out!

AnnaNimmity · 03/07/2017 12:53

Sorry Hobbs

SpaghettiMeatballs · 03/07/2017 18:59

Ooo! Fingers crossed then. I have quite a few nice bits from Hobbs but never tried their trousers.

AyUpMiDuck · 03/07/2017 19:56

Per Una "Roma"cut is quite long in the body and generous on the derriere. Good for hourglass. They do Roma in many styles of jeans so I wonder if their plain trousers might also be in the same cut? Also Sainsbury's TU are very good for curves and Very long in the leg.

kateandme · 03/07/2017 21:53

le redoute do a nice wide leg loose ones.debenhams usually have lots of smart.
zara
or even asos you can strike it lucky

The Reiss trousers look lovely and so do some of the otherReiss styles. As is ever the case the nice things are expensive. I can't bear the saggy arsed look that ladies over 40 seem to get. I'm not sure why finding trousers should be difficult our basic shapes don't change that much but the whole issue of short skirts or not, bare legs or not etc. etc. gets harder when you are 60, as I am.
