Hair that won't hold a curl, anyone found a product that works?

Anyone else got hair that refuses to hold a curl that has managed to find something that works?

Tried tongs, wands, straighteners, Babyliss Curl Secret - looks fine for an hour and then drops out.

Has anyone found a holy grail product please?

Not a product but having highlights and my hair drying a bit and not over conditioning when I want to curl it is my best tip..

My hair struggles to hold a curl, no matter what products and tools I use.
I found using a wave machine works best, although its not quite the same as actual curls.

Avoid conditioner labelled as moisturizing and instead use a volumising conditioner. It won't be as moisturizing but it will make your hair more willing to accept a curl.

Also if your hair is very long it may be too heavy for the curl. And if it's thick try curling smaller sections.

What works for me is hair washed the day before, not the same day. I use a wand or rollers, I put on some styling mousse before I start, then if using rollers I spray with max hold spray when they are all rolled up before leaving for an hour. If I'm using wand or tongs I do a light spray when one side is done, then the other, then more max hold spray before I leave and a mini one in my bag for top ups!

I have poker straight hair that is very shiny and so it's quite slippy, but I can get curls or waves to hold for up to 12 hours doing this.

India knight was raving about the babyliss sheer volume rotating brush a few days ago. I quite fancy trying it

I have dead straight hair. You have to go old school - setting lotion, maybe mousse as well, and heated rollers, left in for a good long time.

If you don't need fat, ploppy curls and you just want some shape, the babyliss diamond wave wand has been great to give my hair some texture

Heated rollers and Elnett hairspray. I have naturally curly/wavy hair but still need Elnett to hold a nice curl after washing. There is no hope of a curl holding without hairspray imo. I use the normal hold spray - it's strong without being crunchy.

I don't use conditioner at all if I intend to curl and my shampoo has salt in it - it's the bumble and bumble one - so after shampooing my hair has a certain amount of texture added. I then also spray in a salt spray and dry upside down thoroughly, before curling with a wand. I do keep the wand wrapped for about 15 seconds per peice and then let the curl go gently and literally spray it with hair spray and do not touch it for 15 mins.
I do find this works for me but my hair is highlighted and also fine, and I think this makes it more damaged but fortunately able to hold a curl better. I think your slippery shiny hair sounds gorgeous though op and I can imagine it would look amazing with a curl so understand why you'd want to do it :)

I don't find heated rollers work well in my hair, though I do find ribbon curls with my cloud 9 straighteners stay in extremely well but sometimes I just don't get it quite right Blush

Use a texturising spray - I could never have curls or waves til I discovered these.

I have thick, poker straight, shiny slippy hair. I can't wash the day before as it gets greasy. But I do skip the conditioner if I intend to curl. The only thing that works for me is heated rollers and very little product.

Recently though I have pretty much given up and I have embraced the straight. I got rid of all my layers and have a sharp blunt one length cut. It shows of my poker straight shiny hair to perfection and I can look polished and styled so much quicker these days.

Spray with dry shampoo the night before, the volumizing stuff from savers, then curl :)
