Are ghd hair straighteners as good as people make out.

So when I go to the hair salon my hair stylist can get my hair straight and smooth, but when I try to recreate the same straight and smooth hair at home, with the same hair products, my hair still looks like straw at the ends?! Why? My stylist uses ghd hair straighteners and I don't, could this be the reason why?? And if so, which ghd straighteners are the best??

Yes, any ones

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 22/06/2017 21:01

I've never had better. :)

BarchesterFlowers · 22/06/2017 21:05

I dint think they are any more. I got ghds in about 2000 ish when they were fairly new technology.

Others have caught up, I now have something else that I can't remember the name of without looking, heats to 230 degrees with floating ceramic plates - no difference imo ( half price though).

MaisyPops · 22/06/2017 21:05

They used to be, but i'm not convinced they are anymore.

Highmaintenancefemalestuff · 22/06/2017 21:06

I love.my original ghds. I had a special edition pair once and moaned to my hairdresser that they were pulling my hair. She said the new ones don't tend to clasp together as tight. I've stuck to originals since then and they are brill.

Purplepotatoe · 22/06/2017 21:07

Yes and mine have lasted about 8 years. Previous pair developed a fault (outside of warranty) they immediately replaced. So so many fakes though so be careful. Better to buy from their site and register.

Look at cloud nine too. They are new rivals and are good. Recommend by my hairdresser. Come with a wider range of heat settings so less harsh if using frequently (thought I no longer use mine everyday). They don't pull my hair like my newer ghds did.

user1487372252 · 22/06/2017 21:13

No longer straighten my hair everyday I mean. Not that I've stopped due to new straighteners.

BettyOBarley · 22/06/2017 21:15

I had the wide plate ghd's and thought they were brilliant, DH bought me the standard ones and I really don't rate them tbh.

Dishevelled09 · 22/06/2017 23:04

I had ghd's but wasn't impressed with them, bought them about 3 years ago. Cloud nines are recommended as I think they are made by the original ghd team. know that feeling of fab hair straight out the hairdressers then it's not the same when I've done it. Think they must use a secret ingredient in the water!

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 22/06/2017 23:05

The old ghds were great. The new ones are shit.

TSSDNCOP · 22/06/2017 23:06

Yes. My pair just died after 10 years daily use.

taytotayto111 · 23/06/2017 12:22

Not any more, they sent me a free pair to review and they were terrible, no way would I have paid for them. I had the very first ones that came out and they were amazing. My friends in the hairdressing community rave about cloud 9.

TheLuckyMrsPine · 23/06/2017 12:52

I have had my cloud 9s for 2 years and wish I'd stuck with GHDs.
The Cloud9s have given up after 2 years of light usage so I don't think they are any better than the GHDs quality wise.

I have just ordered these:
www.argos.co.uk/product/3385681 - first pair of "budget" straighteners I have ever purchased so I will be interested to see how they fare!

JennyGreenteeth · 23/06/2017 14:17

My hairdresser said the same about ghds- They buy refurbished original ones off ebay not the new ones. My wide plate ghds certainly don't seem as good as my old ones. I've heard good things about cloud 9s and corioliss straighteners but not had the chance to try them yet.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 23/06/2017 14:23

My original GHD's were fab. When they died 3 yrs ago I bought a new pair, total crap. Not even in the same league as the originals.

I sent them back and bought Cloud Nines, love them.

NC4now · 23/06/2017 14:27

Same experience with GHDs. My originals were brill and lasted years, the ones I replaced them with were rubbish by comparison.
I now have Cloud 9s which are as good as my first GHDs I think. I've only had them six months so can't say how they will fare long term but every hairdresser I've spoken to swears by them.

Lonelynessie · 23/06/2017 20:56

I've had my GHD's for about 10 years and they are still by far the best. I shall cry real tears when they eventually give up the ghost. Hopefully, they'll last a fair while longer, I don't really use them all that much anymore, maybe 1/2 times a week.

Diamond25 · 25/06/2017 09:04

I have Cloud 9'atget are good but I still think y original GHD's were the best. They lasted 12 years. Iamgking to try Glam Palm next time as I've heard they are good.

GlitterGlassEye · 26/06/2017 00:27

Nope, new GHD's are rubbish. Cloud9 straighteners are worth every penny tho.
