Is this hat too mother of the bride?

Am off to Ascot this week and have bought a hat. The one I fell in love with was too expensive so I bought a compromise. But am worried that I have made a false economy and that it is too old for me and too conservative (I'm 42). I don't want to stand out from the crowd but I don't want to look like the queen either.
It's almost identical to the one attached. Please be honest.

I'm off there too on Saturday. I think it depends on the outfit. Does it look good with it? Do you feel good in it?

I'm matched well with the hat. Shoes, bag, dress, hat all go well together colour wise I think.
The dress is vintage 1970s and very elegant.

Damn it. Going to try it all on again when DH gets home. Although he'd freely admit it's not his area of expertise.

Now you see with a vintage dress I bet it looks lovely. As a standalone photo it's quite wedding. If you feel fab then that's what matters

Flipping heck I've just sweated myself into and out of the whole ensemble in order to show DH. (It's v hot in my bedroom). Should have taken a photo.
The whole thing together looked elegant rather than old fashioned I think.

On a practical note a hat with a brim is the best way forward given this week's weather forecast. A fascinator won't stop you getting sunstroke
