If you're a little Chubby... a curvy type - I'm an hourglass 16) and are of the rolledup jean, Breton and Birkenstock type of woman, what on earth do you wear in summer? I hate summer, melting in the heat and I'm unprepared. Help me!

Oh p.s on a budget!

Pretty much what you've just described.

moleymoley · 18/06/2017 18:47

this is me.

I've got a few pairs of cotton/tapered trousers to wear with v-neck tees, but it's never cool enough.

Bought some long-legged cotton pants to go under skirts (to avoid thigh crash) to get my legs out a bit more this year.

I'm hot and melting and I'm miserable about another hot fat summer..!

bunnybleu · 18/06/2017 20:51

I share your pain! I stick to long or three quarter linen trousers (Asda or sains as they're cheap enough to bin in autumn if needs be) and cotton tops. I bought a lovely pair of palazzo pants in m&s this year, I figure they're the closest thing to pjs than I can wear in public! Grin

A jersey cotton or empire line dress would suit you. Try Boden or Manteray at Debenhams for a more relaxed vibe. H&M also do a basic t shirt dress with an estimated waist which is a great wardrobe staple. It works well with woolly tights in the winter.

lionsleepstonight · 18/06/2017 21:58

Elasticated not estimated!

Hoppinggreen · 18/06/2017 22:01

I'm a similar shape and empire line looks awful on me - hangs from my boobs and makes me look pregnant.
I wear rolled up chinos with vests/camisoles and sometimes a semi fitted jersey or cotton dress.
I am currently in a fitted but not tight thin black cotton strappy maxi dress but have been in blue Boden shorts and patterned vest most of the day

leghoul · 18/06/2017 22:32

Chinos, vest, sandals. Very occasionally some kind of printed trouser, plain top combination. Sometimes shirt/blouse instead of vest.

Diamonddealeroncemore · 18/06/2017 22:38

I'm a size 16 and I wear linen trousers with V neck tee shirts or vest tops and when I want to cover my flabby arms I put on a linen shirt and leave it open so like a longish jacket. I am not remotely stylish these days but I feel cool in this. Cool as in not hot, not cool as in edgy!

RhythmAndStealth · 19/06/2017 01:13

Strappy skater dress, linen shirt over it, tied at the waist.

toffeeboffin · 19/06/2017 01:23

It's hard work i have to admit. Tend to stick to 3/4 length trousers, mid arm t-shirts and Birkenstocks or sandals.

Sometimes cotton dresses or skirts.

I'm quite good at hiding my chubby bits and showing the good bits.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 19/06/2017 01:26

I wear a lot of skirts with T-shirts and Birks / sandals.

NewPurrs5 · 19/06/2017 10:42

Trolley how do you bare to wear Jeans😭

Should I just accept that I can't look good in summer and just wear whatever makes me feel like I stand a chance at surviving a hot day?

Tbf my shape doesn't suit Breton either but I simply know no better!

Shirt dresses with rolled up sleeves, mainly. Sometimes with cropped linen trousers underneath if I need to show a bit less skin...

hiccupgirl · 19/06/2017 16:07

I have a couple of summer dresses from Boden or Debenhams that work well with anti chaff shorts underneath. I like the chino shorts from Boden in the longest length with a t shirt or a sleeveless top.

Currently in a pair of linen loose shorts that I don't particularly like but are cool, and a sleeveless linen top. Hot and sweaty but bearable.

Boden blackberry dress. I'm a tall hourglass, and find these so flattering I have three!

Branleuse · 20/06/2017 17:24

im an hourglass/pear. I spend all summer in floaty cotton dresses and birkenstocks. Mantaray and fatface are usually a decent length that dont need leggings underneath

Rumtopf · 20/06/2017 21:23

I'm an 18/20 and living in cotton knee length dresses, 3/4 length cotton or linen trousers and thin tshirts or longer floaty vest tops.
