Is wearing black to a wedding a big faux pas?

Going to a wedding on Saturday.

Planning to wear black (not all black, but mainly)

DP says it's a no no as too funereal.

Whadda ya reckon?

No, it's a v posh daytime wedding.

I'm not going to wear the pink pashmina with the black outfit. I'll look like a nobbo

At our reg office wedding, my witness wore a fab black dress. She looked better than me

ive only been to about 3 weddings in my entire life - all aunts funnily enough. cant for the life of me remember what i wore to the latter two... but the firat one i wore mostly black.
i wouldnt think it would be a problem... but what do i know? i dont even belong in the sorts of circles where people actually get married... [idly questioning emoticon]

IntergalacticWalrus · 20/03/2007 18:47

It's better than wearing white (that is a REAL faux pas) .

IntergalacticWalrus · 20/03/2007 18:49

That's no worry with me. I look like shite in white. I'd end up looking like the Michelin Man

Last wedding I went to (afternoon and evening) lots of women wore black.

Rantum · 20/03/2007 18:54

If your outfit is not all black then I think it is fine, you can add some colour with a bag/shoes or a shawl like others suggested? As long as you do not feel like you are dressed for a funeral then you probably won't look like you are either, if that makes any sense. I wore black evening trousers with a very pale dusty pink top to an evening wedding reception once (although I didn't go to the church part) and no one seemed to think my outfit was strange (or at least if they did I didn't know about it!)

dither · 20/03/2007 18:54

wear what you feel good in. and buggery to anyone who cares (its not like they'll have the grace or courage to say anything to your face about it anyway, is it??)

No, they daren't

I don;t feel comfortable in anything tbh. I'd rather not go. There will be people from school there, who all have high flying jobs and nice lives, and then there will be me.

Accessorize has some nice stuff and not expensive. Wat about splashing out on some new make up/perfume? O'm sure you'll look fab

ScottishThistle · 20/03/2007 19:04

If I was a Bride the only thing that would bother me would be guests all in white...or...guest wearing a bridesmaid type dress (my Cousins wife did this to her SIL's wedding!)

IntergalacticWalrus · 20/03/2007 19:10

Can't afford anything noo, not even from Accessorize, as I'm on the bones of my arse, and we have to pay for the hotel room after the wedding and the petrol to get from Bath to Loughborough and back. I'll have to look through my limited jewellery and (mostly b;ack) bag collection and see what I can come up with

A lovely flower & you'll be beautiful!

IntergalacticWalrus · 20/03/2007 19:12

I'll have a lovely flower, but it'll take more than that to make me beautiful!!!! (Possibly ££££££££ worth of surgery, and I might be somewhere near)

Go with the black... the only no-no for weddings IMO is the same colour as the bride!

IntergalacticWalrus · 20/03/2007 19:26

Black it is then!

DP is wearing his "one suit for all occasions" anyway. He can feck off
