Hopeless hourglass searching for casual day-to-evening dress

You've all been marvellous in the past - I need your help to find casual dress that can be dressed up or down but is suitable for an hourglass

Looked at this https://www.hush-uk.com/m/womenswear/daywear/daphnedresss_white.htm

And this https://www.hush-uk.com/m/womenswear/daywear/dressesskirts/taraavestdresssolive_white.htm

What do you think? All other dress suggestions gratefully received.

That first link didn't work for me and the second goes to a brown stripey dress....is that right? I personally would consider that too casual to dress up. What sort of colours do you like and where do you normally shop.... that information is helpful.

BlackadderBells · 15/06/2017 23:56

Thanks @SpiritedLondon - realised I did a link fail!

With the other dress, I'd go for the black.

I like jewel colours but am really after something that would look fab, classy but not 'dressy' in various pubs

I don't think either of them would be the best for an hourglass, woudl hide your waist.
how about www.baukjen.com/eu/shop/baukjen/dresses/ivana-summer-dress-soft-white.htm
www.baukjen.com/eu/shop/baukjen/dresses/alena-shift-dress-soft-blue.htm

I have this one, very flattering and neckline is not too low for daytime

I love that esprit dress! How tall are you Katharina? I'm 5'8".

KatharinaRosalie · 16/06/2017 07:47

I'm 5'6 and it's knee-lenght on me. So I think on you it should look about the same as on the model.

BlackadderBells · 16/06/2017 11:11

Thanks @KatharinaRosalie I've ordered the esprit to try, the baujken one looks amazing but just won't suit me because of high neckline

There are some amazing dresses around but they're just not suited to hourglasses sob

Something like this maybe?

BlackadderBells · 16/06/2017 18:51

Thanks @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie - sorry to be a pain in the bum but I can't access that link - could you tell me the name of the store and dress name so I can google it please?

It's the FLORENCE DRESS from Bravissimo.

I have a similar shape than you and I think dresses that have a A line 'skirt' work better for that shape.
Borden has a few of them that be casual or dressed up.

StarHeartDiamond · 16/06/2017 20:34

What size & shake are you, op? TBH some stretch jersey dresses can be very hard to pull off.

I actually like the white hush dress you linked. I would wear that with gold flat sandals for day and gold block heel sandals for evening, with a gold skinny belt, loosely tied, to pull it in a little at the waist.

StarHeartDiamond · 16/06/2017 20:34

*shape! Ha Smile

BlackadderBells · 16/06/2017 22:04

Thanks @PinkPeppers and @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie the Florence dress looks good as do some of the other bravissimo dresses

@StarHeartDiamond

I'm 5 foot 3 and my measurements are 36" bust, 32"waist and 36" hips - definitely an hourglass

OP posts:
Hairq · 16/06/2017 23:12

Actually, I don't think you are an hourglass - there's not enough difference between your waist measurement and your hip and bust measurements. This will make a big difference as to what suits you and opens things up a bit because you're a straighter (and easier to dress) shape. You're very in proportion too. Lucky lady!

RedMetamorphosis · 16/06/2017 23:37

Agree with Hairq - you sound more like a rectangle. I'm pretty sure for an hourglass, there needs to be at least 8 inches difference between waist and hip measurements.

GAP have a load of shirt dresses at the moment that tie at the waist and could easily go day to night.
