Talk me out of this dress

I'm 5'9, size 12, very late 40s.
I have a smart dinner to go to and the races.
I think I need it but have other things I could wear

Plus, I can't find it in a 12 anywhere, that's a sign isn't it?

Oh, that's lovely OP. I'd buy it if I had anything to wear it to

MollyHuaCha · 15/06/2017 15:20

Can't talk you out of it, it's lovely.

OlennasWimple · 15/06/2017 15:43

You can't easily put another layer over it with those sleeves?

The lace top might be scratchy around your neck / chest?

It might get a bit sweaty as it is so close fitting and 100% polyester?

Does that help curb your craving?

LapinR0se · 15/06/2017 15:46

Buy it, it's heavenly

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 15/06/2017 15:50

You can't have it, it's mine.

lemonsandlimes123 · 15/06/2017 15:52

I shan't, it's lovely!

AIMGA · 15/06/2017 15:57

It is lovely - if you can afford it, get it :)

Changemysocks · 15/06/2017 16:00

Thank you so your helpful commentsWink
I think I've found a flaw.
Looking at it on the Next website it looks like the lace panel bit at the waist shows skin so I couldn't wear my big holdyourbellyin pants.

I am the same age and clothing size and I've been talking myself out of that dress for months. I have nowhere to wear it to. If you've got an occasion to wear it , go for it!

wowfudge · 15/06/2017 18:48

Get some flesh coloured pants and you can. Or stick a belt round it.

Twinklyfaerieglade · 15/06/2017 18:50

Bought a very similar style dress a couple of years ago from Whistles. It's my go to dress. Buy it, you will love it and wear it for quite a while x

Asmoto · 15/06/2017 18:57

I think it's lovely, but if you're looking for reasons not to buy, navy isn't perhaps the most comfortable colour to wear in (hopefully) warm summer. When I go to the races I'm usually in scruffs, but always think of the dressed-up crowd, in summer those in light-coloured things look the most cool and elegant.

OhWellNeverMindEh · 15/06/2017 19:21

I love whistles and have several dresses of theirs and they fit beautifully and last really well.

I'm not over keen on the sleeves though, bit clown-like for meShock

here

OhWellNeverMindEh · 15/06/2017 19:22

Prefer the one in my link

Loopytiles · 15/06/2017 19:25

Dull colour, conservative, polyester and the weather is hot.

MikeUniformMike · 15/06/2017 19:30

size 12 is available on the link you gave.

MumBod · 15/06/2017 19:35

Whistles dresses are amazing. You'll wear it loads. Do it, OP.

Bubblysqueak · 15/06/2017 19:38

I'm not keen on the colour or sleeves. Does that help?

Bitchfromhell · 15/06/2017 19:41

I don't like the squared off lace around the top. Too boxy. Also, it's a bit boring

2017SoFarSoGood · 15/06/2017 19:41

it is divine. do it.

Okite · 15/06/2017 20:19

I think it's a bit boring too .
I mean, it's ok, but it's not over-£100 ok.

KarenfromFinance · 16/06/2017 07:07

I have it and love it. It does feel very formal though and I've only worn it once. I sized up. It's very close-fitting.
