Can you please help me anchor my style to these shoes?

I'm in a right muddle.

Big life changes. Spent the last decade in frocks and flipflops. Now living in the cold and I have NO idea what my style is. To help you understand how serious this situation is, today I'm wearing mum-jeans, purple reebock trainers, cat socks, and a hand knitted v-neck jumper belonging to my 9-yr-old son. I look awful and it's getting me down. I think it will help me get on with all the other shit if I at least feel like I look like me.

So I saw these shoes and I bought them and I bloody love them. They are who I want to be right now. (I realise some of you just recoiled in horror, but they are perfect for me).

I thought maybe if I start with the shoes I could build from there... I think I want to wear them with thick black tights and a short green skirt... or maybe rainbow socks...ummm..

Other important information:
It's winter here right now.
I'm 5'4", a size 10 and in decent shape

Please, please if you are good at this sort of thing, suggest where I might go from here.

I don't know whether I'm good at this kind of thing and I have to be honest, they're not my sort of thing at all, but how about this sort of thing?

Can you please help me anchor my style to these shoes?
LittleKiwi · 15/06/2017 02:59

Sorry, of those three pictures, first on the left. Sounds like you could pull it off and would stop the shoes from looking too "mumsy"

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 15/06/2017 03:17

Thank you Kiwi. The high waisted cropped trousers and shirt tucked in pic? I do like that - though not the colours. I think brown / green / orange is what I'm feeling at the moment. I will add high waisted trousers to the mental list, you're right, they could work.

Have a look at the ranges stocked by this shop. The shoes would be worn by a lot of their clients.

ICJump · 15/06/2017 03:37

I wonder if you like this sort of thing karmaeast.com.au
It's Aussie based but it might give some thoughts on what you could try

SerfTerf · 15/06/2017 04:07

So very 2001 seventies-inspired, autumnal, librarian chic then?

Am I close?

HateSummer · 15/06/2017 04:09

My ds's teacher wears shoes like that. She wears over the knee jersey dresses in colours like deep blue with scarfs around the neck in bright colours like orange or yellow.

AtticusCactus · 15/06/2017 04:24

Those shoes are lovely.
I would wear them with black tights, bright skirt (check out Australian designers Boom Shankar's Rosanna skirt) and plain brown or black top.
Or I'd wear them (no socks) with skinny jeans turned up to ankle skimming length with a plain jumper or coat with bright scarf and a beanie.

😂😂 love it!! Yes I think that might be where I'm aiming.

On mobile right now, thank you for links... will check the minute I get home.

That KarmaEast stuff that @ICJump shared is very like Spanish brand desigual, BTW, in case you're European based.

ICJump · 15/06/2017 06:23

Yes disgual stuff would be great too.

I love the shoes by the way

RichardSimmons · 15/06/2017 06:31

Boden definitely, or its sister Joules.

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 15/06/2017 10:57

Right. Have checked out the links.

Capriccio is not ticking the boxes. Perhaps a bit too loose and free-form? Thank you for the idea though ImsorryIasked. It's good to rule things out.

I LOVE the stuff on the KarmaEast website. Love love love. Especially some of the midi skirts. I know Desigual too but can never quite click with it because it's SO Desigual iykwim. I had a Desigual dress once and I felt like a walking Desigual advert somehow. Am I even spelling Desigual right?

Thank you for the pics SerfTerf - I really like the idea of a blazer. I secretly want a bottle green velvet one. Apparently 15 yr old me is alive and well and making a bid for control of the reins once more. Nice skirts too. I keep scouring Op Shops for similar.

I like the Boom Shankar stuff too - still investigating there, though the prices are a bit punchier. Thank you Atticus

I feel good about this. You've all given me some direction. Thank you.

Lagenlook but keep the bottom section semi fitted with some rolled up jeans then an artsy top with those shoes would work.

Interesting and creative looks here. Might not be your cup of tea but elements might.

Grin

Don't tell anyone but I think I still have my teen one in a vacuum bag somewhere.

speakfriendandenter · 15/06/2017 13:22

Love the shoes!!!! Where are they from? I love SEASALT for quirky dresses and tunics. Anything cord with thick tights would go well with the shoes too!

AllThreeWays · 15/06/2017 13:27

I bought a bottle green velvet jacket last year. I get compliments every time I wear it.

MrsD79 · 15/06/2017 13:30

Tweed. Country style. Simple blazers. Shirt. Skirts. Classic stuff in earthy colours. Its a fab combo.

UsernameInvalid66 · 15/06/2017 15:19

I would wear them with either burgundy or mustard yellow (or conceivably bottle green, although that's not a colour I wear much) opaque tights and short colourful skirts/dresses that included the same colour.

I find it harder to imagine them with trousers but they might work with baggy combats or similar, and some colourful socks visible.

I think if you wore them with black tights you'd probably need to be wearing something else black (a jumper or cardigan maybe) as black and brown is a combination that can look really good if you get the balance right, but if just one thing is the "other" colour it can kind of look like you didn't have anything that "went".

ICJump · 15/06/2017 21:37

I have a purple pinky velvet blazer. It's the fucking greatest. I'm away this weekend and everything is planned around my lovely blazer.

A bottle green one would be fab!

desperatehousewife2 · 15/06/2017 22:38

Am I the only person to have opened the link and gasped in horror at those shoes? Sorry OP!

ICJump · 16/06/2017 21:40

Others might have but the quietly left with unkind remarks.
