I have seen lots of people wearing them and there have been quite a few threads about them recently, but I think they are really ugly. What is so great about these shoes?

Nothing they are vile and ugly and make you look like you have huge wide ungainly feet!!

expatinscotland · 19/03/2007 16:39

They're comfy and don't make your feet sweaty.

nailpolish · 19/03/2007 16:40

you wahs them in the dishwasher

(no i dont have a pair)

paulaplumpbottom · 19/03/2007 16:40

I love mine. They are amazingly comfy. I would not wear them in public however.

NotQuiteCockney · 19/03/2007 16:41

They're very comfortable, and easy to slip on. I do think they're quite ugly, so I tend to wear mine only around the house. Oh, and on beaches.

I don't like sandals (not comfortable, generally, plus my toes aren't very cute), and these make a good substitute.

Theyre really comfy, you can wear them on the beach and in the water and then they dry.

Yes my chunky ankles are not flattered by them, but seeing as one ankle has bits of metal sticking out of it, nothing much is going to flatter it, not even Jimmy Choo!

MrsSpoon · 19/03/2007 21:06

IMO they look like you couldn't afford to buy real shoes.

Fubsy · 19/03/2007 21:07

Cant

mrsmalumbas · 19/03/2007 21:08

I don't have a pair myself but I have been told they are great for doulas because it doesn't matter if anybody's water breaks on them or you get vomit or indeed any other bodily fluids on them and you can even wear them in the shower

I still think they look like something a mad dutch person would wear

Fubsy · 19/03/2007 21:09

For sure

Rantum · 19/03/2007 21:10

My sister came back from Australia 1.5 years ago sporting a pair and saying that they would be the next big thing in the UK. I thought, "man, they are ugly" but just nodded my head politely.

I hate it when she is right. (And the look has grown on me, although not THAT much as I have yet to but some for myself)

Fubsy · 19/03/2007 21:12

Seriously, i thought the same, but after trying to clamber about in rocks and pools after DD, I decided I needed something for the beach, and these seemed a lot better than those horrible beach shoes that take ages to dry.

Theyve really grown on me now, and I often wear them around the house.

Other footwear I swore I would never buy:

Birkenstocks

Doc Martens

DeviousDaffodil · 19/03/2007 21:14

Last summer i thought thyey were dreadful and swore i would never wear them.
I have just ordered a pair of sage caymans and cannot wait to wear them.
But I still wear my clogs that i bought circa 1991!

MrsSpoon · 19/03/2007 21:18

I think mrsmalumbas doula comments sum up my feelings on Crocs.

Mumpbump · 20/03/2007 16:46

Well, I can see a practical benefit, but still don't get the style thing!!!

OP posts:
MakemineaGandT · 20/03/2007 18:21

I think that Crocs are "fashionable" for the same reason that these ghastly items were once popular

snoods
shell suits

i.e. people are sheep and buy whatever is said to be "in" without exercising any critical faculties of their own i.e. is the item inherently stylish!?

Now, if I was working in a fish shop gutting fish and needed to slop about and hose my feet down all day or something, then I might just consider buying a pair . Not likely otherwise! (They do look cute on kids at the beach though)

Kif · 20/03/2007 18:38

a la doc martens,
i think the colour choice draws people in

We went to Oz and everyone was wearing them so I bought a pair - swore I would only wear them around the house BUT... they are soooo comfy and I cdnt give a shit what people think about my 'style'!

bananabadger · 20/03/2007 21:58

They are so comfy; I had a pair for Xmas and have been unable to wear even my birks since! I try to convert anyone who comments on them!

crunchie · 20/03/2007 22:09

I have little feet - size 4 so they don't look that big and daft. Also they are comfy and cool and practical. i do wear mine out, infact I wore them WITH SOCKS the other day to got to the supermarket

I did have long jeans on so you couldn't really see the socks They are black too so they just look like shoes at a distance, I want bright ones for the summmer too

Flamesparrow · 20/03/2007 22:12

I tried some today...

They felt nice

If I wore shoes round the house then I might consider them.

Linnet · 20/03/2007 22:16

I have a black pair, they are sooo comfy. Wore them last year at the beach and they were fab I wear them around the house and in the garden and have been known to wear them into town. I can't drive in them though as I can't feel the pedals properly.

I'm buying some for the dd's this year, they're really excited about that.
