Is this dress OTT for a wedding guest? How should I accessorise?

I'm thinking of wearing this dress to a wedding in July: www.lindybop.co.uk/ophelia-sky-blue-floral.html
I would wear a petticoat in order to give it shape, so it would be a bit of a 'statement' however it's very different to the bridesmaid dresses and the colours are somewhat in keeping with the 'festival' theme.
Would you consider it OTT or is it a safe guest choice?

The next question is accessories... What would you wear over the top in order to keep warm? A wrap? A shrug? A jacket?

Shoes are going to pose a problem. I'm currently wearing an air cast boot due to injury/steroid injection and the wedding is the weekend after it comes off.

I own these (wore them for my own wedding), however I'm not sure whether I'll be able to cope with the heel height: www.houseoffraser.co.uk/shoes-and-boots/paradox-london-pink-perfume-vintage-style-t-bar-sandals/d554958.pd#215806081&_$ja=tsid:44970%7Ccid:202644475%7Cagid:10012780675%7Ctid:pla-297491841090%7Ccrid:197556903793%7Cnw:g%7Crnd:15060012519762285369%7Cdvc:t%7Cadp:1o1%7Cmt:

Are there any suggestions for flats/low heels that would look OK?

Thanks!

Wear it... but not the petticoat. It's a gorgeous dress but the focus should be on the bridal party.

pinkpantsrock · 05/06/2017 20:24

irregular choice for shoes......

pinkpantsrock · 05/06/2017 20:25

InfiniteSheldon · 05/06/2017 20:27

I'd have loved it if you made that much effort at my wedding it's gorgeous and yes to the petticoat and irregular Choice

JamesDelayneysTattoos · 05/06/2017 20:31

Can I hijack to ask about sizing on these dresses? I'm a 16

Pastaagain78 · 05/06/2017 20:31

It's beautiful but I agree with not wearing the petticoat. 'Sticky-out' should really be for the bride only I think. It is gorgeous though!

chopchopchop · 05/06/2017 20:32

I'm wearing this dress to a wedding a bit later in the year, and will be wearing it with a short cardigan. Wrap or shrug would be good too though.

These are the shoes I'm wearing, they're not too high and quite comfy.

Needmorechocolate · 05/06/2017 20:32

Love the dress but the shoes are too bridal

mrsBeverleygoldberg · 05/06/2017 20:34

Love the dress. Have you looked at Irregular Choice shoes?

SailAwayWithMeHoney · 05/06/2017 20:37

Love the dress!! I would forgo the petticoat and find different shoes... another call for irregular choice.

Designerenvy · 05/06/2017 20:40

Beautiful dresses. Lose the petticoat. Shoes look a little bridal for me. Something more quirky wld be good.

Poppins2016 · 05/06/2017 22:15

Thanks all, great advice, I'll try the dress without the petticoat. I'm not at home this week but will perhaps upload a picture when I can.

I wondered whether the shoes were too 'bridal' or whether they could be filed under the 'generic pale shoe' category. As they'll be quite visible (and probably uncomfortable following the cast anyway) I'll find something else.

I love Irregular Choice but couldn't find anything that seemed to go with the dress. I'll have a look at other choices - perhaps a pale pink/peach option...

I wore that dress in green with a petticoat to a wedding. It's a lovely dress but really won't take the focus away from the bride or the bridal party. The dresses look better sticking out.

Poppins2016 · 06/06/2017 17:51

Thanks Gin - I agree that the dresses look better sticking out.

I might just ask the bride herself whether she minds, as I know her well!

Still stuck on the shoes, though... I think a shopping trip is in order!

I think sticky out is fine for a festival theme. It's a lovely dress. I'd wear a cropped cardi with it.

Not sure about shoes - sounds like flats might be your best bet, or kitten heel Mary Janes maybe?

FP239 · 06/06/2017 19:49

I own a few dozen of these dresses in various designs and over 50 pairs of irregular choice. OP, to go with that dress you want to try the brand new pastel colour way of the lazy rivers ( if you can find them), the pink would go beautifully. I bought the green colourway and they arrived today and they are AMAZING! so much prettier than the previous pink/greens. Otherwise Ban Joes would match a treat in pink, or blue nick of times.

SewMuchToLearn · 06/06/2017 20:14

You'll be just out of a cast...don't wear heels! Or if you do make sure they're wide enough to lessen the strain of staying stable (so not stiletto) and take something flat to change into. DH took quite a while to feel normal again once his cast came off. And obviously was wearing flat shoes. I don't know what your injury was but don't wreck it again just to wear pretty shoes!

MrsJamesMathews · 06/06/2017 20:26

Lovely dress OP! Definitely fine for a wedding - with petticoat.

I am a big fan of irregular choice but I certainly wouldn't wear their shoes with this dress. I think that would be too much business.

I would be looking for plain, matching pumps and cardi. Preferably in whatever colour the flowers are.

Irregular Choice Sulu - blue ballet flats

MrsJamesMathews · 06/06/2017 20:27

Busy-ness. Not business!!

MabelFurball · 06/06/2017 21:44

I think the first dress is hideous. The next link down (lilac and gold) is really pretty though.

LedaP · 07/06/2017 05:59

That dress is lovely. I nearly bought it for a birthday party but ended up picking a halter neck one instead.

Petticoats are fine for weddings. Absolutely no rule that sticking out dresses are for the brides only. Alot of these dresses need them or they just lack shape.

FatGirlWithChocolate · 07/06/2017 08:45

Love Lindy Bop dresses..wear the dress with the petticoat showing slightly under the skirt..maybe in a contrasting colour? it's a lovely, summery look.

Ginmakesitallok · 07/06/2017 08:47

I've worn similar to 2 weddings recently, and wearing again to July wedding - with a petticoat!
