Help! Vivienne Westwood Sunday dress, room for norkage?

MrsLettuce · 04/06/2017 20:50

I've found a second hand VW Sunday in white and it's in fab condition. I'd love it to be my wedding dress but TBH I didn't think I was going to find one in a month of (ha) sundays.

But, now I have I'm fearing that my top heaviness may put pay to things. Waist wise dress is just right, bust wise (measured flat) it's coming up 8 cm short on the bust. But, it looks like there may well be roomHmm Anyone have one / had one on and can advise?

I could just buy it, try it and re-sell if needs be. Would rather not though. It'd take a while and I can't really be doing with having three quarters of my budget tied up like that.

Do you think the seller might be amenable to you going there to try on? Appreciate it might not be possible but even say 6 hours each way on a train is do-able maybe?

Gorgeous dress.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 04/06/2017 20:57

Oh god that's gorgeous. Get it. I'm sure a seamstress could add some darts to the side seams for the norkage.

MrsLettuce · 04/06/2017 21:13

Thank you bothFlowers

6 hours each way on a train, I'd do for this TBH. It's several countries away though, unfortunately.

Much as I'm a regular visitor to my local seamstress, I don't think I'd dare /want to have something like this messed with too much. The construction isn't standard so I'd worry about it ruining the lines, IYSWIM. I think I'd be more amenable to having a slightly big one nipped in but adding fabric less so. Scary. Mmm. Shall mull.

Can you go into a VW shop and try one on?

TBH I'd just buy it and then resell if doesnt fit.

BusterGonad · 05/06/2017 14:11

I'd buy it and resale it or alter it if it was me.

Popalina · 05/06/2017 14:21

Yes, tried on many a Westwood outfit and the style is meant to encourage over the top spillage even in the right size, so too small might feel uncomfortable and chances of a nip slip significantly raised! Personally wouldn't risk it unless it's going for very little money.

Floisme · 05/06/2017 14:27

I've tried one on with a similar bodice and neckline. (It was second hand and bargainous and I walked away cos my arms are shot and a cover up would have looked ridiculous Sad) Anyway back to you... If it is the same design then I think letting it out would be tricky; not impossible but it wouldn't be a standard alteration because of the way the neckline was constructed. It was all a bit origami-ish, which was what made it such a stunning dress.

Sorry to say that. But I bet it would resell very quickly....

MrsLettuce · 09/06/2017 12:23

I totally forgot I'd bumped this, sorry Blush Thank you all for the replies.

I decided to risk it 'cause the price is so very good. Should arrive today and I'm on tenterhooks.

I can live with an expanse of norkage but not nip-slip, hmmm. I'll certainly not dare risk alterations so it'll either have to fit or be resold. Eek.

Good luck, let us know how it goes!

MrsLettuce · 09/06/2017 15:00
Shock

It's here and it fits like an absolute dream! Could have been made to measure. Astounding.

The origami-ish neckline is a thing of wonder, it envelops everything. There's a subtile hint of cleavage but no chance of nip-slip. Yay.

It needs steaming and a stitch at the bottom of the zip and I'm sorted.

Hell that's a relief Gin

Fabulous news , you are going to look amazing !!!!
I love VW

NorthernLurker · 09/06/2017 17:07

At least VW designs for real women's shapes. Lovely dress, well done op.

HelenaJustina · 09/06/2017 17:12

Hurray! Happy wedding day!

MrsLettuce · 09/06/2017 18:56

NorthernLurker absolutely. She really does.

So, yeah. This is just two layers of thin cotton, no stretch. It comes up as a size 12 but it's taking a 32G bust most happily. Although I do think this is about it's max to look right THB. Still. But, it'd definitely look phenomenal on a 32A too, totally different but equally amazing. The waist and torso are equally, ingeniously accommodating I suspect.

Sorry all. I'm blown away TBH, I've always loved her stuff but only from afar. I've 'met' or had on anything of hers before. Possibly slightly over enthusiastic. Blame the moon.

I also payed a bit less than most women on here seem to spend on wedding guest dresses. Can't believe it.

I just saw this and was going to say that dress is made for norkage but I see you have found out already.
I'm jealous - I have one because the dress is gorgeous but I know I'm too flat chested really

I still wear it. Fuck it.

prettywhiteguitar · 09/06/2017 19:02

Please can we have a photo ? I really want to see Grin

Floisme · 10/06/2017 10:25
