Sun protection for hair - is there such a product?

I'm going on a sunny holiday in three weeks and am wondering if there is a product, cream maybe, that I can comb through my hair whilst I'm around the pool which will offer some sun protection. Sun lotion for hair instead of skin? I'm hoping to avoid the usual bleaching out of my highlights and drying out of hair.

Boots used to do one I think. A spray.

bluebump · 30/05/2017 11:47

I got a Superdrug product last year that you spray through your hair and it helps protect your hair and scalp.

RoganJosh · 30/05/2017 11:47

If you google, lots of results come up. There's three in Superdrug for example.

Thanks soup, it doesn't get great reviews though. I've googled and found Philip Kingsley suncap. I'm looking for scalp protection too, rubbish fine hair due to cancer treatment. Just thought someone might be able to recommend something.

Normal conditioner under a swim cap?

Aridane · 30/05/2017 12:05

Boots have / used to have a brilliant one that was in a blue bottle with blueish liquid. You had to shake it well to disperse the oil and other liquid, but was brilliant for protecting hair. Hairdresser was very impressed with how good my hair was after a beach holiday. Haven't found anything else as good

Aridane · 30/05/2017 12:07

This is the one I was thinking of from Boots - www.boots.com/beauty/hair/conditioner/boots-sun-swim-and-gym-hydra-spray-100ml-10140068

My hairdresser recommends lots of cheap leave-in conditioner and a bandana over the hair.

joangray38 · 30/05/2017 12:14

Decelor do a hair and body oil spf and alpha h are bringing out a spf 50 hair and body spray . Korres was the only one that worked for me but I think they have stopped making it.

I have been eyeing up the Ultrasun hair protector - I love their other products, just worried about making a costly mistake. I usually just wear a hat, but it's not always practical.

Whiskwarrior · 30/05/2017 12:30

Superdrug are definitely doing a spray again this year. Hair and scalp spray.

Deathraystare · 30/05/2017 13:52

I got a spray from Boots which is from I think he is called Mark Hill. It is pink multicoloured - the bottle NOT what comes out!!!

MorrisZapp · 30/05/2017 13:54

System Professional Solar Oil smells gorgeous and it's all over eBay due to featuring in recent beauty boxes.

SuperFlyHigh · 30/05/2017 15:02

I used to get a spray from the hairdresser (L'oreal posh one) but rarely used it.

To be honest, scarf over hair, tie it up if long and if needed hat over that.

SuperFlyHigh · 30/05/2017 15:04

Thinking about it, I'm sure I got an Aveda spray on lotion for sun last year, it was good, when I remembered to use it!

Dreamqueen · 30/05/2017 15:36

The Philip Kingsley Swimcar is great.

trigger2 · 30/05/2017 15:41

Eucerin do one that you can use on your scalp, it's sun cream as opposed to a spray so not sure if it would make your hair greasy. I intend to try it this summer to see what it's like

namechange20050 · 30/05/2017 15:44

You can use regular sun cream. and a hat!

Wigeon · 30/05/2017 15:46

Wear a hat! Much easier!

Unicorn81 · 30/05/2017 18:42

Malibu do this which is a pound or two cheaper i think from bodycare, makes hair look a bit greasy if you put a lot on but helps stop your scalp from frying too

I bought a hair and scalp spray from primark last week. It's in a little yellow bottle

MinesaPinot · 30/05/2017 22:53

Not sure what your budget is OP, but I've used the Kerastase Soleil range and also the L'oreal Solar Sublime - they both do protection sprays for hair and both are excellent. Last year, watching the pennies, I got a Pantene one, but haven't seen it in the shops since so it may have been a one-off. Shame as it was quite good.

I was in Boots today getting my L'oreal Elvive colour protect and see that they do a leave-in cream in that range which has UV protection so I may give that a try.

MinesaPinot · 30/05/2017 22:56

PS. Echo the advice about wearing a hat as well. Actually, when I was dozing on my sunlounger I put my spray on and then tied my sarong over my hair - DH reckoned I looked like Mrs Mop (!)
