Shorts for fat legs..

What do you wear if your legs don't look like the models' legs in the shorts adverts (I.e straight up and down and slim)?

Short shorts are no good because they bunch up in the thighs and generally show off too much and the ones that come down to just above the knee make me look a bit too 'sturdy' like a man.. I am a post pregnancy size 16. My legs are relatively toned from lots of hill walking but not exactly slim. Help! Or shall I just buy a moo moo and be done with it?!

For me it's about getting the correct inseam length. Many shorts are 3" which are way too close to the crotch for my liking. I tend to go for 5", which are flattering, and comfortable. Boyfriend cut shorts (perhaps in a size up) for denim. Mine are old from Gap and recent from Old Navy. 5" are mainly from J Crew or Banana Republic.

But it's about height too: my legs are quite long at 5'7", but my short friend finds the 5" way too long for her.

I much prefer shorts when at beach or knocking around at home when hot

Got some from TKMaxx yesterday. First pair in YEARS! They look fine. I shall wear them and feel cooool 😊 on the beach next month, in Cornwall

You're not deluded. I'm a size 10 in most places (inc New Look and Top shop) but always have to have a 12 in H&M - and a 14 on occasion. Zara is another with tiny sizes in my experience.

Re H&M sizes I find the tops come up big, and the bottoms are absolutely tiny!

Gap did have boyfriend shorts which if you wear them on holiday with a slight tan they look quite nice.

Otherwise it's skirts for me.

Those h& m shorts are gorgeous.
I have a similar pair from matalan , perhaps slightly shorter.
I also think it depends on your bum. If you have a decent bum then go for fitted, stylish ones.

john and emily, I saw those shorts a couple of weeks ago but didn't need them, if I see them again I think I'll try on seeing they seem quite nice.

Thanks changingShorts, I had to size up 2, yes 2 sizes in those H&M shorts.
I've yet to wear them, but with a lot little fake tan, they'll be fine I think. SuperF they are worth having. Those hols sneak up on you and having to panic-buy shorts....
Pear with saddlebags here, they're good for my shape.
