Birkenstocks - sizing, style, views?

I really like these but can't decide between blue and orange - fancying something bright this summer and thinking the blue will probably be best.

Anyway, I've never had Birkenstocks before but have heard good things about their comfort. Anyone had this style and if so, do you love them?! Have also read that Birkenstocks sizing is on the big side - is this true? I'd say I'm a 5.5 so usually end up having to buy a 6 and tolerating things being slightly big...though sometimes 6 is perfect. Can be ok in a 5 in a sandal depending on the brand. Any advice welcome!

I got the neon pink ones like yours OP last year and I love them.

Thinking about the EVA ones too in bright red!

I'm a size 4 and have a size 4 in them

I've just inadvertently bought the bright pink EVA ones. For £26 they can be my beach and paddling shoes. That makes a current total of NINE pairs:

2 x silver Gizehs, one pair is now disgusting and should be binned but they're my gardening ones
Gizehs in pale green, purple patent, brown, black and now pink
Amsterdam slippers in both charcoal (boring) and shocking pink (lovely).

I may have a slight Birk problem.

I tried on the size 3 Madrid and they were massive on me. I thought my feet had shrunk.

KentMum2008 · 29/05/2017 19:32

I always size down too, I'm a 6 and always buy a narrow 5. They fit like a glove. My sister has the EVA and loves them. They always rub the first few times you wear them but once you're used to them, there's nothing comfort IMO. I'm hyper mobile and my feet roll inwards if I'm not wearing decent shoes, so I get achey old lady knees. Birks are the the only shoes that stop it happening. I remember my first visit to a new physio when I was 19, she looked down at my birks and said 'first things first, excellent shoe choice, top marks!'

Buy them. Buy them in every colour imaginable and stuff anyone who says they're not cool 😂

There's nothing more confortable*

KentMum2008 · 29/05/2017 19:33

FFS comfortable*!

VerbenaGirl · 29/05/2017 23:10

Oooh, I love them! I have several pairs of Birkenstocks. Every year there's a new colour to tempt me! I've found them true to size - I'm usually a 7 and wear a 40 in Birkenstocks. I can always wear them straight away with no wearing in, and walk miles in them. Most of mine are toe post ones though (Gizeh).

NotMeNoNo · 29/05/2017 23:22

I'd try the 5. Of course they aren't kitten heels but some of us think women should be able to walk in comfort like nature intended. I've spent today packing for a house move, all day in birkenstocks, 8500 steps, comfortable and brilliant.

NotMeNoNo · 29/05/2017 23:24

Mine are leopard print Mayari's. I like that blue though!

LotusBomb · 30/05/2017 09:17

Monty, you star! There's a pair of Birks (copper Arizona's) that I've wanted for ages that are both pricey and difficult to find in my size. Thanks to that code bringing the price down and the sheer luck of them being in stock in my size on the website, they're on their way to be as we speak.

Huge thanks!

SuperFlyHigh · 30/05/2017 10:13

I've never had the other Birkenstocks but have 2 Papillios, a white cherry pattern and black floral pattern.

Putting the latter on eBay as I rarely wear them!

Aworldofmyown · 30/05/2017 10:27

Love my Birkenstocks - I get a pair every other year as they usually do two summers.

i'm usually a 39, yet I'm a size 7-8!

Shantotto · 30/05/2017 15:54

I need Birkenstocks with an ankle strap - anyone seen any that aren't the boring black and white? They used to do silver but they don't anymore! :(
