If you are not a dressy person - what do you wear to weddings?

I've always felt ridiculous in dresses unless they are a bit more to my style ( black mainly! Nothing too girly) heels are an even bigger problem.

Got a wedding coming up soon and for once I'd like to feel comfortable in what I wear. If you fancy giving ideas I'm 5"4, size 12, biggish bum with no boobs and a slight belly.

Tuxedo trousers. Love em.

Generally dressed-up but still very plain version of the trousers and top I wear all the time (so silk or velvet rather than denim). Then a fabulous indoor/ lightweight coat or jacket in a stunning colour or luxe fabric over the outfit. I had a puff-ball coat in taupe stripes for one wedding; a black velvet with shocking pink lining and frogging for another; and I am fancying something in brocade.

As you haven't mentioned budget, may I suggest looking at Moloh? It is £££ but wearable in a slightly bonkers aristo vein, and the coats/jackets would take you to all sorts of dressy events. I haven't ever bought one but I have coveted one of their frock coats for years (although I reckon I would look pants because I am generous of nork). It would be a good look on someone with less ample cleavage. There are some bits on EBay too.

I look awful in dresses and feel uncomfortable and awkward.
I read somewhere once that when going out you should aim for a dressed up version of what you normally wear rather than something completely different.
So in my case that would mean trousers (rather than jeans), with a blouse/top made of more luxurious fabric than usual, maybe a jacket and heels or dressy shoes and a sparkly bag or scarf.
Wore something like this last weekend to a wedding after weeks of agonising and felt great in it!
