Is there any way to wear a jacket/cardigan with this dress ?

Went shopping for a dress for a wedding on Saturday. Found a beautiful dress and went home happy.

I quickly tried on a cardigan and a jacket but the lovely lacy bit at the top was covered up so took away the niceness of the dress so I didn't carry on looking for anything.

Now I'm a bit worried that I'll be cold. The wedding is up north in June (average temperatures 17 degrees). My mum says we'll be inside for the whole time but even so I'm worried about being cold. Is there anything I could wear with this dress?

a lace short bolero / cardi? a pashmina?

some examples

I'd go for a pashmina so that I could just wrap it around the arms.

A bolero will look odd.

A cardigan is better if it's cold, but, as you say, it hides the best part of the dress. I'd still take one with me, just in case, because I'm sensitive to the cold. :)

You need either a pashmina type wrap or a smart edge to edge plain jacket in a similar tone to the dress. Think royals wearing a dress/long line jacket sort of style.

I'd thought of a pashmina too - what sort of colour would you recommend? My shoes are ivory as is my handbag.

Whats an edge to edge jacket ?

I'd either go the same shade of ivory or blue. It may be different to match, but I don't think I'd want to go with three colours. It's less elegant, IMO:

Sorry, difficult to match.

Ivory short/cropped length tailored but relaxed jacket like the Coast Kemara jacket or similar. (That's just an example). I think pashminas are very awkward and look dated for a formal event unless evening.

The dress is 60s in origin and you need to reflect the length of the lace section, which is quite short, with a waist length jacket (as opposed to a hip length) as hip length will knock out the sweep of the skirt.

Cardigan is no good as the dress is heavier than a cardi so it would look perched on top and struggle to contain the lace and layers. That's why you need a tailored jacket, for the weightiness.

Finally the 60s shape requires a slightly boxy, simple jacket shape. Think Jackie o. (It's nothing like Jackie o dress but that's the era the dress is following).

Hope this helps!!

I wouldn't go for a short jacket or a jacket as long as the dress.

Blush, cream, grey, navy would all work.

PovertyJetset · 02/05/2017 20:42

i would

What about this, it may just match.......
