I need a hat, two actually, and I only wear woolly hats

Help me please. I have got to go to three functions where women wear hats and I hate that sort of hat. Just is not me at all.

I can get away with wearing one of them twice but the same people will be at two events so I need two weeps.

I am looking for small, tiny, minute hat that I can put on my head to satisfy the dress code only. Not ££££. Although I would happily pay decent cash for a woolly hat I can't justify money on something like this!

Googling small hats or tiny hats produces fascinators with feathers and bits that would stick you in the eye if you got close enough - I don't want feathers and flappy bits - small, tiny, plain invisible almost.

What colour will you be wearing? I love hats, I haven't had a reason to wear a whopping great hat for years!

Second hand, eBay. You'll pick them up for under a tenner if modern, more if vintage.

Why don't you look for a hat hire place locally? Much cheaper and you can try on loads to find the tiniest least hat-like one possible.

I've just bought myself two fabulous hats from a hospice charity shop. Would have been £200 plus each, look brand new and are exactly what I needed. I paid £38 for them both. One's for Trooping of the Colour (actual event and reception not public area) and other is a cathedral wedding.

Kiwi - great idea but I live rurally and have left it late because I was ignoring it so I need to buy online.

I am not sure Green, I have a few things I could wear, could be navy, black, beige (part of a navy dress), deep red (part of another dress), dark green.

Back to eBay then - my search for small hats produced scary looking fascinators.

Is it for a garden party? Wedding? The races?

A little straw trilby, or fedora or something like that? Might be less 'Mother of the Bride' than most.

Have you ever tried any 'proper' hats on? Just to see what suits your face? That might be a good starting point.

How about a pill box hat, some lovely, discreet (and reasonable) ones on eBay.

Mrs Peel, the only thing I have seen that I like is a Whiteley Pillbox but it is £104 and I would rather not spend that much cash.

I used to wear hats, in my late 20s, lots of corporate events but I gave them to DD to dress up in as a toddler, she got more wear/fun out of them than I ever did.

I moved on , I can't imagine wearing a hat these days, certainly not all day - it will drive me potty.

I have got a Whiteley hat, the only one I kept, black wool felt and lovely but a winter thing.

Back to eBay - pillbox is it I reckon. I could probably suffer this, if it was ¼ of the price.

I couldn't do that pearly bit Mrs - not in a million years.

Not sure this gives any idea of what suits me but this is my one remaining hat.

I just want small and plain really I suppose.

Thanks mrs, well that is an hour of my life I won't get back - everything is too fussy for me. I have just seen the Whiteley one on a photo of DoC - too big for me so even if I felt like splurging I would want it half sized.

Tomorrow is another day - no idea what to do here!

I don't know when you need them for but John Lewis have a lot more felt hats early September. BHS used to be great for this type of thing

I have ordered this in black, this in navy and this.

Hat shopping is hard when you are boring , the black one is v plain - yes?? I thought I could remove the bits that stick out too much on the navy one and alter butcher the beige one to make it smaller.

I know that the first two are 'wintery' but it snowed here a couple of days ago so they will be fine. Hard to find dark colours that aren't big and extravagant that don't look funereal.

I had to order right now because DH is absolutely sick of hearing about hats and I only started last night when I posted .

They are nice. I especially like the first one and agree that taking the sticks out of the middle one will tone it down.

I like the first one too Savoy, by far my favourite - I am tempted to buy it in all three colours tbh but am not sure if I should wait until I see the black one first.

I did it - I bought them all - that should be my hat collection forever.

God knows what I was thinking of with the beige thing - DH was in bed next to me, sick of the whole hat conversation (which was only two hours long as we slept during the night ), I will give it to someone at work, although I think that the seller is very mistaken if she thinks she doesn't have to offer returns.
