I'm in serious need of an overhaul - 34 going on 44 (and some)! I'm beyond high fashion but could do with two or three things that might update my look a bit (all the yummy mummies in the park are wearing metallic shoes - am I missing something?!). Advice from the fashionistas would be very much appreciated!

People will need your stats, hair colour and skin tone before they can really help.

Enid · 12/03/2007 12:38

yes height weight etc needed

also what would you normally wear (no cheating!) a) to the park
b) out for a meal with dh

docket · 12/03/2007 12:46

aaah yes, very good point.

am 5 foot 8, size 10-12, brown hair. pale olive skin.

enid, i would wear same old jeans and shapeless top with trainers to the park. for dinner with dh probably smart jeans with heels and a nice top.

Do you want stuff for just everyday wear or are you after something for an occassion

docket · 12/03/2007 12:56

sorry, i've not been very forthcoming have i?

i want stuff for everydaywear. i guess if i had a 'look' it would be casual/classic so i'm not after anything overly glam. i've got plenty of jeans and a few okay tops. i'm thinking that a good jacket and/or some funky footwear might update me a bit. but i'm really not sure and have no confidence anymore in my ability to pick things out.

actually I have no idea

I wear a pair of flat suede boots with tucked in skinny jeans and my black and white primark coat for mum things atm

Blow half on a good haircut, the rest on accessories: a couple of funky necklaces and some cool earrings. Or a fab designer knock-off handbag.

Went to Peacocks today as it is the only non food shop in the closest parade of shops to me and I was quite surprised.I bought a lightweight semi fitted parka style summer coat with some nice details and really quite cool.It was only £20!!I also bought a quite funky pair of plimsolls with velcro fastenings (sound terrible look great)and a pair if large quite trendy sunglasses which were £10 and £4.You are tall and slim so lucky with choice imo.

Bucketsofdynomite · 12/03/2007 17:57

I second Matalan and Primark, you could get a whole new wardrobe of separates for £100.
Weather's getting nicer, get some lowslung cropped jeans to wear with colourful plimsolls for the park or strappy heels or ballet pumps. Also cropped leggings under a little skirt. (Tip: Matalan jeans have generous sizing - get as tight as you can, they will soften and sag within an hour.)
Get in some non-shapeless tops, you have a great figure! Plain longsleeve stretchy cotton tops, strappy vests, scoop or vneck if you're busty, if you're fairly flatchested you could go for a trendy highneck vest.
Ask staff for second opinions when trying things on or you might talk yourself out of things.

PeachesMcLean · 12/03/2007 21:51

I'd go for the haircut too for a starter, if you really feel you need a change.

ambercat · 12/03/2007 21:54

New look always have loads of cheap funky shoes

docket · 14/03/2007 10:33

thanks for the advice ladies. i think a haircut sounds fab, my hair does resemble a pair of curtains at the moment so probably the quickest way to make big improvement. and there's a primark down the road now so i'll be heading there quick smart. thanks
