I need something big enough for dds' swimming stuff and that I could also use when I pick them up from school to throw art masterpieces, book bags, lunch boxes, Important Letters and unwanted jumpers and coats in. all of these got thrown on to the pavement in a fit of rage the other day when dds were nagging me to hold their hands. I thought a suitable bag might be easier to source than a spare set of hands... (and before you tell me they should carry it - I do insist they carry something but when it's at its worst it's still a right royal pita) I have in mind something open at the top, with shoulder straps, big enough to be able to rummage iykwim, preferably with an inside pocket for keys and purse, something a bit beach-bag-like I think. any ideas?

MrsBadger · 11/03/2007 19:54

the word you seek is tote

CODalmighty · 11/03/2007 19:54

god no
get them to carry it
cant carr it dont take it

hatwoman · 11/03/2007 19:54

we have a 25-30 min walk, they're 6 and 4, the weather is unseasonally warm (hence discarded clothing) and they don;t have school bags. It's just not worth making them carry the lot.

nice shape and size and idea, not overly keen on the print - I like the idea of prints and indeed flowers (not entirely because dh wants to use it too) - but not that particular one.

MrsBadger · 11/03/2007 20:01

Debenhams? Next? Topshop? Classic canvas?
am rubbish at looking for bags

MrsBadger · 11/03/2007 20:02

'tote' just means 'carry'
but is name for the type of bag you mean ie beach bag open top sort that goes on shoulder.

foxinsocks · 11/03/2007 20:03

lol fio

I have been known to take one of those M&S food bag things (they are by the till - not shoulder bag but v roomy) when ds has football just so all their stuff is kept in one place otherwise we tend to arrive home and realise we've left lunchboxes etc. scattered all over the playground.

foxinsocks · 11/03/2007 20:03

oops see you have said trendy

disregard my last post!!

milge · 11/03/2007 20:10

I use a fold up bag a bigger version of this . Pity about the discarded popcorn that is at the bottom of mine, and sticks to most things that emerge.

roberta3 · 11/03/2007 20:16

Friend of mine uses one of the Ikea blue bags- Not v trendy but massive. Avoids using the word tote too!

Me - I just scream at the kids like a fishwife and make them carry it. Usually involves the 2 year old picking up all the discarded items till he can hardly see over the top of his pile!

hatwoman · 11/03/2007 20:27

I like the simplicity of the ikea / m&s bags - they are pretty much perfect - but I'd like one with just a wee pocket for my purse and keys and kind of like one that looks ok. (I'm so shallow)

I like the bags for life you get in french supermarkets (but also milge's suggestion)

filthymindedvixen · 11/03/2007 20:35

hatwoman - I have same problem and i have been known to use a funky Habitat shopping trolley (folds up quite small when not in use) but it;s carp in the rain

filthymindedvixen · 11/03/2007 20:36

oh MrsB I like that topshop Stars one!

princesscc · 11/03/2007 20:44

I usually kick the toddler out of the buggy and stick it all in there!!

filthymindedvixen · 11/03/2007 20:47

ah yes...god i miss the old buggy. I coud get so much shopping in there

Dh always says the same as cod - make them carry it. Somehow though, it doesn't quite work out that way.

I am lol at the lovely expensive bags linked on this thread, because I tend to shove a plastic carrier bag in my pocket in case I need something!

hatwoman · 11/03/2007 22:16

yes, rather optimistically I looked at Boden. they have a very nice leather one but pmsl at the price. how they've got the nerve to call it "fun" I really don;t know
