What to wear to posh 5pm wedding with reception at the Savoy

I don't normally frequent the Style section, but I am in a dilemma.

Do I wear "day" wedding kit? or does a 5pm wedding mean that people will be dressed more for an evening do, and my wide legged linen trouser suit, and funky new hat will be out of place?

There is no mention of an evening do/late party the invitiation just says, "with a reception to follow at the Savoy Hotel, Strand, London WC blah blah".

Any ideas?

I would wear evening wear - definitely.

I went to one of those. Although the actual wedding was in a church, followed by a reception in the Savoy. I wore a very plain straight silk dress (below knee but not long) and jacket (then spilled gravy down the front- classy).

Eveningwear definitely and no hat (unless you've booked a room and can chuck it upstairs safely.) With a 5pm wedding you won't sit down for dinner til at least 7.30pm.
A 'le smoking' type suit might be good but you'd definitely need to get your hair done on the day to compete with it LOL. I always imagine Marlene Dietrich when I think of trouser suits so you need to look slick. Strappy heels too.

5pm means evening but not sure if it need be long or not. Does it say black tie for men?
The 50s dress shape would work but probably not in a floral print.
Fascinator if you like but no hat

Ghost wave dress in black. It would suit anyone and is gorgeous
