Thoughts on going from blonde to brunette? Am I mad?

Hi

As a child I was a dark blonde, when I got to 16 I started having some highlights and have carried on since then. I have a mix of blonde/caramel colours and my hair is just short of my shoulders.

Since having DD (13 months) I am sure my (natural) hair has got darker. I seem to need my roots done more and more frequently. I'm so tempted to go darker but am so scared it wont suit me. I haven't known a "dark" me but looking at my natural colour now it is really dark.

Any advice on whether to go for it or not? Will my old clothes suit me with dark hair or are some colours suited to hair colour? Sorry if I sound naive, I've only ever had blonde hair!

Thanks
Lucy

oh and DH isn't keen, should I take notice of this?

Try it.
You might like it and you can always go back

(I went darker once but back to blonde again asap)

Thanks TB

Do you know how long I'd have to keep it dark if I don't like it?

I am the same as you exactly and was contemplating going dark.

can you go reddish/auburn/titian instead of dead dark, might be less of a shock to the system. I went from white blonde to reddish then progressively darker. Suits my skin tone much more and I look at pics of the blonde me and it looks wrong now.

I suggest you get a lot of low lights first to see if you like your hair darker.

A few of my highlighted friends tried going dark & hated it, I'm sure had it been a more gradual change it wouldn't have been such a shock to the system!

Isn't red a bit more tricky clothes wise?

zippitippitoes · 09/03/2007 20:10

go for it

my dd has recently done this and she looks much classier

I have just had my shoulder length hair cut into a graduated bob which means I've lost alot of my blonde highltights, and am also of thinking of getting some kind of chocolatey colour to make my natural mousey brown a bit warmer. But keep putting it off! Scared! You go first!

ST - thats a good idea, about a year ago I changed hairdressers and the colourist automatically toned down my highlights so I looked a lot darker than usual (but still blondy). Perhaps that speaks volumes?

CS - right, I've decided, I'm going to really get the highlights toned down next time (approx 6 wks away) and go from there. Knowing I can return to blonde quite quickly is giving me confidence to do it

Thanks everyone

Lucy
