Shorts for the short (and wide) of arse

I'm going somewhere really hot in August and am going to have to embrace the shorts. I'm 5' 3", 12-14 and have chunky thighs. They need to be just above knee length and plain bright colours with no external detailing (no turnups, no leg pockets etc) apart from belt loops. Not too baggy but not (shudder) thigh hugging. Am I asking too much?

Do you have to wear shorts? Can you just wear casual dresses?

I am a classic pear with chunky thighs no way I would wear shorts. Every August you find me somewhere with a temp of 35 to 40. I wear cotton dresses. On the beach - not mid day obviously - a bikini and long kaftan as I am also pale skin. I am yet to pass out.

Just stick to natural fibre and a hat and pay attention to time and shade.
