tell me about the Boden wrap dress - big norks needed??

Keep looking at the lovely wrap dresses in Boden but am a large 14 on the bottom and a small 14 on the top. Some wrap dresses look fine but wondered if the Boden ones require much up top to avoid gaping??? Also can't work out if they are fixed. i.e do they fall apart revealing blubbery thigh when hemline is tweaked by toddler??

I dunno about the Boden one

but I am small of norks and wear a scoop-neck top/cami under a wrap dress

and wear mine with jeans. dh is at this since he feels I should be more feminine, but yes, am too afraid of the toddler thigh effect

hermykne · 09/03/2007 14:08

theres ample fabric to avoid gapping SBUE
and with wrap dresses the tighter you tie the less risk and neater fit. so fit shouldnt be a problem.
they give the actual garment measurements so measure yourself to double check.

Flamesparrow · 09/03/2007 14:09

I wear mine over jeans as well.... Are you small of nork or an average? I think average would be fine as is, and small with a cami - I am large and have to wear cami half the time to stop norks escaping.

CODalmighty · 09/03/2007 14:10

thye are oft fo very tall folk shoppign and you are a dwarf

Tinker · 09/03/2007 14:11

I have one. Am small and it gapes - need to get something to wear underneath

CODalmighty · 09/03/2007 14:11

try whitestuff
they have loads

deaconblue · 09/03/2007 14:11

ooh good. Dh mentioned the other day he thinks I look good in my wrap dress (£15 Tesco) so I thought here's my chance to get expensive dress and pretend to be doing it for his benefit. Think my belly is too big to cope with extra bulges from jeans waistband so would have to wear it just as a dress

CODalmighty · 09/03/2007 14:12

CODalmighty · 09/03/2007 14:15

yes.

deaconblue · 09/03/2007 14:18

just looked at whitestuff. Patterns too frumpy. Can't cope with 70's retro prints. Fancied something floral and red

incy · 09/03/2007 14:44

There is a fixed wrap dress in their spring collection fixed wrap dress

deaconblue · 09/03/2007 19:14

It looks lovely doesn't it? I might send for it even though Cod thinks I'm too short for it. I like the purple one a lot

smittenkitten · 09/03/2007 20:16

hi shoppingbags. sounds like we are similar sizes/shapes. I have a black boden wrap dress size 14 and it's fine. i think it's a little low cut for work so wear a vest/camisole under it. v flattering

Spidermama · 09/03/2007 20:17

Padded uplifting bra.

fizzbuzz · 09/03/2007 20:39

I have tried on both Boden dresses and immediately returned them. I have big norks, and they made me look like some kind of joke buxom serving wench. They were horrid

deaconblue · 09/03/2007 22:02

So perhaps would be good for small norks then? Hurrah! And they do it in regular length which perhaps wouldn't be too long. Have been thinking about a padded uplift bra for a while since breast feeding ds turned mine so squishy I think a camisole underneath would be good too

OP posts:
deaconblue · 09/03/2007 22:04

I like the short sleeved wrap dresses a lot too. Perhaps I should just bite the bullet and order both

OP posts:
fizzbuzz · 10/03/2007 07:40

They are not very long either. I ordered long as I am tall, and they didn't reach mid calf so whole thing looked wrong.

I think a regular length would be fine for a smallish person

incy · 10/03/2007 08:23

I am 5ft 5 and a size 8 with no norks and the 8 regular wrap dress is fine on me (in size and length.)

If you are worried about gaping then try the fixed wrap dress although I haven't had any problems with the short sleeve wrap dress which is not fixed. Perhaps it is only a problem for the larger busted !

Not sure if you have ordered before but Boden gives free returns through mumsnet so you can always order and return for free if not right (prompt refunds I have found).
