How do you style your bob?

Just had my super straight reasonably fine hair cut into a bob, looked amazing after the hairdresser blow dried it, it looks bloody awful when i try and style it! Any tips on how to make it look better?! Styling products recommendations?? HELP!

ps why DO hairdressers do insanely neat partings - surely they know everyone walks out of the salon and scrunches/messes it all up to look better?!

I have a bob and i use a Babyliss Big Brush (rotating hot air styler) on it after blast drying with the hairdryer first. Looks salon fresh every single time for little effort.

Glad you're doing better with it, it does take practice. Loving the drawing-thought I'd add mine 😄

Mine's very Mummish today as it needs to be washed but this virus that I've got makes the very roots of my hair hurt so I can't face it

JamesDelaneysHat · 12/04/2017 20:19

I have a deep seated fear of my bob becoming mumsy but don't suit short hair and long hair annoys me. The BBH has made a huge difference though but I feel like I am scorching the hell out of my hair between that and straightening AND daily washing. I'm about the get it balayaged so will have colour to add to the general damage Shock

I do the brushing upside-down and all round. Gives volume at the roots because the hair doesn't know which way to fall.

I've recently got a Bob and love it. Like a previous poster, I either let it curl naturally with lots of spray, or I straighten. I use one of those hair drying turbans from Poundland to get it mostly dry and give volume.

I have a great hairbrush for drying, a tangle teaser blow dry brush. It saves time and effort.

Think l have a mum bob!!! I was growing it out , but as usual got to a certain length and looked a bit straggly, so have had it cut shorter...into a one length chin length bob! My hair is fine and straight and boring! I have it all one length to add some weight to it so that it fell nice and flat....maybe an inverted bob or layers is the answer...I was in a meeting at work and the head said...while describing a person she had met" they had a bob, not a trendy bob like Claire's, a college but one like (mine) ..a just a bob, bob!! The only reason l don't want to cut it short in the nape to invert it is because l often used to tie it up, but not so much now. Maybe l should go to a new hairdresser and go for shorter and a trendy layered inverted bob?

Love the anti mum bob! Cartoon advice is always good!

I've scrunched mine up and my heart sank when she asked where my parting usually was! I was kind of 'oh, you know, sort of wafty and forward'....

Bit late to this discussion but I've had a bob for years as it seems to be the easiest way to get a "cool" look for my fine but not dead straight hair. Straighteners are absolutely vital as is the blow drying in sections. However when I do this (and it is cut right) I can get up the next day with it looking almost perfect. I can just tidy it up a bit which makes it all worthwhile. However, cut is key and since my hairdresser changed career 18 months ago I've been driven mad by other hairdressers who think they know what I want and how to cut my hair! Too short and solid does not work for my hair. My DH driven mad also. Not an easy style but for me worth it. Hope that helps fleur.

That's so annoying about your hairdresser waterdogpuppy - arghhhh! So this morning I didnt have time to wash my hair and just gave it a quick once over with the straighteners (I so hear what you are saying JamesDelaneysHat about scorching your hair - eeek!) and its still looking pretty good - phew!

The mumbob (mob?) is now my ultimate fear in life...
