My ageing neck! Make it stop!

MrJohnsonAteMyCustard · 09/04/2017 14:53

Perhaps this has been covered many times. It's my neck. It's AGEING. It's CREPEY. In the past year it seems to have gone downhill rapidly - and I'm a mere spring chicken of 47 (and a half) Shock This is unfair and I would like to officially complain Hmm

I moisturise it like there's no tomorrow and use sunscreen.

My question is: what, if anything has worked for you in the neck department? Is there any product that has helped (I know it's par for the course with getting older - not looking for a miracle). In particular - can you let me know if you've tried any retinol products?

Thanks in advance!

I'm 55 and I FUCKING HATE MY NECK!!!! I'm saving up to get a neck lift.

EnidButton · 13/04/2017 17:49

This one www.boots.com/no7-restore-renew-face-neck-multi-action-serum-30ml-10226695

They were dishing out the £5 off vouchers last week so if you ask around someone you know might have a spare voucher you can have.

MarvinKMooney · 13/04/2017 18:47

I've found my people! Nearly 47, my face (I think) looks good. My neck is horrible - and definitely worse since I lost some weight. Sigh. I feel like donning a polo neck jumper and never coming out of it again. Blush

neveradullmoment99 · 14/04/2017 15:21

I posted a voucher on here!!! I will find it.

Here: SERUMS5 will give you £5 off any serum from boots no 7 collection.
I just purchased the new neck one. I collected it today from my boots store. I got the £5 off. Hoping it will be the answers to my prayers!!! I noticed another 2 ladies buying it.

neveradullmoment99 · 14/04/2017 15:22

Oh i used the code online and just picked it up from my local boots store.

shirleycartersaidso · 14/04/2017 15:37

I'm 38 and this hideousness has started in the last six months. I'm going to have surgery at some point. My face looks low 30s, my neck 70s. It's fucking depressing.

mrwalkensir · 14/04/2017 15:50

Thanks for the heads up on the No 7 - have just taken advantage of the 3 for 2 to get some for my sister and mate too. Btw I've done neck exercises for 30 years as have a soft neckline iykwim. Noticed the other day that it's looking good compared to peers. Not sure how much is down to genes etc, but try the exaggerated Q and T pulling exercises ( ie saying them very hard)

mixedpeel · 14/04/2017 17:05

Yep, like shirleycartersaidso, mine started all of a sudden in my late 30s. I think it must be down to genes, as I've become slightly obsessed since mine went, and checking other people out, there are lots of people who just don't have the same issue.

Yet I've still got a flippin baby face (44 now).

Crepey neck must be the price I'm paying for not going grey yet. Would far rather that - dye it, job done (or not, obvs, and embrace the grey, but at least you get the choice!)

Plus, the jowls are starting to loosen...aaarrggh!

MichaelSheensNextDW · 14/04/2017 17:28

Swimming - lots of breastroke is brilliant for the neck.

neveradullmoment99 · 14/04/2017 18:53

I am slightly obsessed too. I tend to check out peoples neck frequently. My dh has no bloody issues. Mind you a beard helps. There is a woman that is at my work, as thin as a pencil and yet i marvel at her neck. Not a bloody necklace line [ or whatever you call it] and absolutely no crepyness. As for mine, I started noticing it at 46 precisely. I remember the shock when i had been lying back on the sofa checking out something with my mirror on my face when i happened to notice my neck had literally turned that of a 70 year old!!! It has been a slow decline since. I have smothered it in nivea. Tried a ton of lotions and potions. The baginess of the skin is no worse but the crepy vertical fine lines make me want to cry and stuff a bag over my head. Its so depressing. I am 49 and many people reckon i am in my thirties. I keep thinking 'Have you not noticed my neck?' Of course i am way to conceited to mention it!!!

neveradullmoment99 · 14/04/2017 18:54

They lady in my work with no neck issues is mid fifties!!!!

PollyPerky · 14/04/2017 20:20

If you have the vertical lines they are caused by loss of muscle tone and collagen so it all separates under the skin. No cream will correct that :(
You can try the serum to make the skin less wrinkly or crepey but it won't work miracles. Neck lifts are evidently very hard to do because there is nowhere to hide the scarring. I was told (by a dr) that Botox and Thermage can work a bit but you're never going to have a really young neck again.

Mine isn't great - face is fine- but didn't use sunscreen on neck. Be warned.

AwkwardSquad · 14/04/2017 20:29

Yeah, crepey neck here too. I hate it. I'd wear nothing but polo neck jumpers except I hate them too.

Hmm, well I swim 4 times a week and my neck is now beginning to go at 46 so not happy at all. Got a few white hairs (not particularly noticable), face and body look OK, but neck is now beginning to go and I don't like it one little bit. I didn't think I was vain but appears I am. I'm going to sulk Angry

AwkwardSquad · 14/04/2017 20:38

I'll join you in the sulking corner, Count

Therealslimshady1 · 14/04/2017 20:38

Mine comes and goes ....

It is fine now (age 45) but occasionally I have a day (or harsh lighting?) Where it looks shocking.

I swim, not sure it helps, and I always slather it in body lotion

But it is just very thin skin isn't it?

I solve worries about my looks by avoiding mirrors Grin, easy as I live in the sticks!

neveradullmoment99 · 14/04/2017 21:25

scarves in the summer dont cut it. Draws more attention to the fact you are hiding an ageing neck.

Waitingforsherlock · 14/04/2017 22:42

I feel your pain. Mine is getting worse by the day, not helped I am sure by looking down at a screen and reading in bed.

I snapped up a tube of the serum on Wednesday. No improvement as yet unsurprisingly. I was discussing this problem with my two beautifully firm-skinned dd's the other day and we discovered that if I could peg the skin at the back of my neck, the front would look lovely and smooth.

I just wear a neckerchief and imagine Ilook like this all the time.
