Concerns about dying my hair every 3-4 weeks

I'm really grey/white. My natural color is mid-brown and I've been dying my hair every 3-4 weeks for about 12 years now.

Recently I've seen stuff about cancer and other risks related to long term hair dye usuage and I don't know what to do. It seems the more natural dyes either aren't as natural as they suggest and just swap one nasty chemical for another, or they don't provide decent enough coverage.

Does anyone here use a more natural dye that they could recommend for good coverage?

Growing my grey out is not an option I'm comfortable with now, I'm 37 and pretty much 100% white on the top third of my head and I'm just not ready to do it.

Madison Reed isn't great either lots of bad ingredients in there. Ireadlabelsforyou.com did a good analysis.

Daniel Field gets good reviews on here but I've never used it.

I was doing my roots every two weeks and I had similar concerns to you OP. Plus the condition of my hair was really suffering. Then I discovered this which is a dupe for the Colour Wow root cover powder. It's absolutely brilliant - I apply it on dry hair and it lasts until I next wash it. I also have a little thinning around my parting due to medication and this camouflages that, too. Now I dye my roots every six weeks and the condition is so much better.

What happens if you get caught in the rain?

Highlights would blend in with the grey and you could push it to 6-8 weeks.
They also don't touch the scalp.
