Do me a favour - what do you wear at this inbetweeny time?

Do me a favour. I have always been at a loss as to what to wear at this time of year. I am always cold so leaping into a sundress and flipflops in March was never going to work. I am actually praying it is cloudy today so I can wear my usual trousers and a jumper. In "Spring" the glossies would have us believe that all women have a floral outfit and/or lightweight "capsule" wardrobe to see them through those sunnt days and lighter evenings. Thing is, I have no idea what this should consist of. So...indulge me, what do you wear in April/May when it's not really that hot but is getting warmer and the winter jeans and jumper just don't cut it.

I tend to go from a jumper to a shirt or long sleeved tshirt plus cardigan.
Boots are swapped for converse.
That's about it for now.

As above but also swap out chunky winter coat for woollen boyfriend blazer and scarf (for chilly mornings).

Layers. So a t shirt with either a loose jumper over the top or a cardie. A skirt and tights or trousers.

For work I tend to have jackets and t shirts or shirts. What keeps me warm is my coat - the office doesn't vary too much in temp but I have a scarf just in case.

Thinner jumpers and jackets.
Long sleeved t-shirts.
Also a couple of nice fitted shirts that I can put a thin vest top under.

It very rarely gets properly hot here (Scotland) so the days of sundresses and sandals are few and far between. Currently I am wearing a lot of ankle grazer length trousers - wide or leg leg - with brogues or trainers. Shirts or sweatshirt type tops. Leather biker jacket or mac just now, denim jacket waiting in the wings. I generally start with a scarf for walking to work but don't need it for walking home. In my bag I am currently carrying a woolly hat, sunglasses and an umbrella.

T shirt under leather jacket, cropped trousers or skinny jeans, trainers or lightweight ankle boots.

Layers and between season clothes. A lighter coat or jacket. Thinner jumpers.

Not sure about capsule wardrobes though.

Thank you for all these suggestions. I get in a bit of a dilemma because IMO it's too cold to have bare feet and ankles but it seems a bit OTT to be wearing long boots and tights etc. My feet are always cold if I wear loafers with no socks. I think I look a bit mad for about 8 weeks until it gets properly warm.

I wear thin socks with loafers, or ankle boots.
Mostly jeans.

Of course, for me, it needs to reach levels of at least 25 degrees (and minimum temperatures of 15 ºC) to wear anything without socks or tights.

This would be me, but with shoes and probably socks.

Thanks Lweji for the pic. I saw a woman in Sainsbury's on Mother's Day in a spaghetti strap sundress and sandals and nearly passed out with the shock of how cold that must feel!!

Denim jacket and light scarf instead of big winter coat and woolly scarf, with t-shirt underneath instead of long sleeved top. I don't really do winter clothes as I get really hot when I walk, so apart from wearing gloves to stop my hands freezing the only difference is outerwear. (On the flip side it has to be about 32°C for me to lay aside my long socks and boots and wear ballet pumps with no socks instead.)

I wear my winter wardrobe to work, but incorporate a few more layers I can take off and some lighter colours if possible. I don't officially bin off the black tights/ankle boots for work or my winter coat until well in to May.

For casual, I wear skinny jeans, tops/cardis and Converse/Vans/stone-coloured ankle boots and a mac. Not the most inspired look, but its practical for when the weather goes madly from freezing and raining to 18c like it has been in London the week!

I find it tricky too. I try not to wear wool jumpers unless they are extremely thin or lightweight and generally start to wear lighter colours. I also ditch my back opaques for nude tights at work and for casual, ditch socks and boots for loafer type shoes.

For me, it's summer that's the tricky in-between time. From late april until autumn, I'll mostly be wearing from:
Rolled up jeans
Cropped troursers or chinos
Silk or cotton shirts
Long sleeved Tees
Lightweight jumpers e.g. fine merino, cotton, linen.
Brogues, loafers or leather plimsolls.
An assortment of jackets (leather, tweed or denim) and lightweight coats.

I have very few proper summer clothes and no plans to buy any. They don't suit me any more and, on the few days when it's hot enough, I'd rather be covered up anyway.

But so far all I've done most days is taken off scarf and gloves and unbuttoned my coat. Where do you people live?

I am moving from winter clothes to summer. In practice, this means wearing winter dog walking kit in the morning, with a gilet or climbing fleece instead of a duffel coat or Barbour, and putting on something (equally utility) but lighter weight in the afternoons to do the garden. If I was going back to being a professional, I would be amping up the colours a bit, changing shoes and having a lighter brighter bag.

First step ditch the winter coat, take off hats/gloves/ heavy/tall boots.

Replace with jackets: denim, lightweight parka, jersey blazer etc

Start replacing long-sleeve t-shirts with short-sleeved as the temp start to rise through May.

Start wearing rolled up jeans, cropped trousers or khaki joggers with trainers/ballet shoes or light suede booties, moving to sandals once a bit warmer.

Switch main handbag to spring/summer one eg navy, beige, tan rather than black leather.

I'm going to dig out my Gap girlfriend jeans.

I find this time to be similar to September/early October; the key is layers. A pair of trousers/jeans is fine for bottom, up top think a lightweight blouse or t shirt with a jumper/cardigan on top and a light coat too. With them all on you'll stay warm when it's cold but they're all light enough to remove and carry over your arm or fold into a bag if the weather warms up throughout the day.
