Mother Of The Bride Help Please!

I am lost and very afraid Grin

DD1 is getting married in August, I have been looking for an outfit for months and cannot find a single thing I like.

The wedding is supposed to be fairly "low key" (but with 120 guestsHmm) Local Church then village hall a two minute walk away, and a 'romantic' feel for the bride, decorations, flowers etc.

I do not know where to start, I live in skinny jeans and a blouse/jumper, I do not do dressing up. I can wear heels if i wear a wedge (god I sound about 12), I'm 51, size 10, but quite a bit of boobage (32FF).

Does anyone have any recommendations for even a style i should be looking at, or where to even start?

TIA

I love this and think it would be gorgeous on your figure. 51 is not even slightly old!

My mum is 69 this year and wouldn't consider herself slim (she has lost a lot of weight through Illness though) or trendy but I took her shopping and made her try this dress on, she was shocked! It covers her arms (apparently a must), was plain, simple and in a size bigger than normal hangs so nicely. She is about 5'3 and it was just below the knee. I found her coral suede ballet pumps in dune and a statement necklace. None of this is what she would choose herself but it made her realise how good she could look in something different. Good luck! Obviously we went with the navy blue not white! m.johnlewis.com/french-connection-ensore-crepe-tunic-dress/utility-blue/p/3148217

My mum has picked this for my wedding in September, she's also 52 and about 5ft2 Smile the beading is beautiful in real life.

It's Adrianna papell from John Lewis.

Thanks for the ideas and tips everyone. I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates the whole traditional MoTB dress and jacket look. You've given me the confidence to stay well clear if it!
I'm actually looking forward to going and trying on now, so thanks again.

These trousers and blazer from Hobbs are a bit different but might fit the romantic feel your say your DD is using herself.

My mum got a lovely dress from next. She lives in jeans and t shirts.

My mum (early fifties) buys a lot of her dresses from Wallis and they really suit her and are genuinely lovely for most ages/shapes etc. I think my MIL got her dress for our wedding from Coast - it is quite pricey but for a one off special occasions I'm sure you'd find something. At the end of the day your daughter just wants you there by her side, don't worry too much about your outfit (you'll be so proud you'll even forget yourself on the day) hope you all have a brilliant time x

Wow - that trousers and blazer are AWFUL Shock
I mean, I've been looking at all the links, as I hear you about the MotB look and those of us in our 50s not being old ladies, but that really is awful.

I just came on to say Ted Baker too. There are some lovely dresses on there

HopefullyDothButterNoParsnips · 01/04/2017 06:18

My mum wore a lovely fitted dress from coast and then a nice fascinator hat thing just to set it off. You should have a look in there. With your slim figure you'll find something! Good luck.

Chottie · 01/04/2017 06:29

OP - I was a MOB last year and I bought a fitted dress from Hobbs with a silk jacket. I wore it with a fascinator (didn't want hat hair in the evening) and sling back, kitten heel court shoes.

The wedding was on one of the hottest days of the year, but I felt fine. I would really recommend setting a day aside and trying on a lot of different styles.

Loved the two pink ted baker dresses . I would wear them and I'm 65

I love quiz dresses. I have loads but I don't like that one in navy. I don't like lop sided hemlines.
Think they will date quickly

Dowser · 01/04/2017 08:25

My friend was motg and got her dress from a charity shop.

Cost £7 . It was ok but I'd have put a bit more effort in.

( oh btw money was not an object)

Chi chi do some gorgeous dresses

www.chichiclothing.com/bridesmaid-dresses/

I'm at a big wedding next month.
I've got a green Lacey dress from m and s and pale green shoes from joe brown

If that doesn't fit, I'll have to wear one of my wedding dresses.
One is a Sophie grey dress and the other an Eliza j

I always have another pink and white dress from joe browns ( I'm hoping will fit) for a society wedding I'm expecting an invite to later in the year.

All bought in the sales just waiting for an occasion.
