'Occasion' coats... what are they and where can I find one?!

I'm going to DH's passing out parade and lunch at Sandhurst next month and I understand i should be smart but not wedding smart (I don't think I need a hat?)... he is in the reserves not the regular army so there's no commissioning ball, it's just a parade and lunch for families.

I think I need a knee length dress and an 'occasion coat' - I love this from Boden but can't warrant the price tag!! clothing.boden.co.uk/m/clothing/Odetta-Coat

Does anyone have any other ideas? Or have I got there wrong end of the stick and need to go more formal?

I am late 20s, 5'5'' and size 10-12.

Thank you!!

Can't comment re dress code for the event but Zara have some nice coats at the moment. Couple of what they call 'frock coats' and some long length light wool coats in a few colours.

I'd get dress first and then look at coats

Thank you - I had wondered about Zara, definitely more affordable! I will take a look online

Saw a nice one in Cos if you wanted to get away from the pastel look. Here.

Looks nicer in real life especially without the matching trousers. If you already had a navy dress it would look stunning. Also, not too weddingy. It is slightly sparkly.
Congratulations to your DH!

I tried this one on last week www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/outerwear/coats/inverted-lapel-frock-coat-c710515p4420029.html
It is very smart without going over the top.

I love the look of this red coat from great plains - I just never had the occasion to order it for myself! Bargain too.

I have just bought my daughter a pale pink coat with fluted sleeves from Zara. It is georgeous. They also do a lace nude dress that would work well with it. They also have a blue/white coat with a small peplum/frill. This would look chic over a navy dress but pink/nude is a big trend this summer. Have a fun day.
