Is there a special way to sew on Beavers' badges?

Not exactly "style", sorry, but wasn't sure where to put this .

Ds1 has recently joined Beavers and I got him the sweatshirt today. He wants me to sew his one badge on but I wondered if there were any rules where I am supposed to put it - do badges have to be added from a certain side or something? Any Scout / Cub leaders out there to help me out?

just don't do what I did and sew them on without tacking them on first

cos if you try to miss out that stage they will be wonky

A word of advice - if they have an iron-on backing peel it off as it is a bugger to sew through!

You can buy badge glue apparently - about £5.00 for a tube. I've checked already at the Beaver Scout Hut thingy

Saker, that diagram is still correct. And fear not - in a very happy year at Beavers ds has accumulated one Year Badge, one mahoosive and very stiff Scouting Centenary Union Jack badge (that was a pig to sew on tbh) and one Fun Day badge.
Have you really only been given one for starters? Ds had three, plus an incredibly cute house sparrow one for his scarf.

Aha! What timing! I put off doing the sewing last week so ds turned up badgeless as I wasn't sure what badge went where, so thanks - and they were only given membership and name badges, I thought that was the norm .

Well the badge is just the centenary one - we haven't been given any others I don't think - worried now! The group is newly formed and was some doubt if there would be enough leaders to keep going so they may have put that off I suppose for the time being.

So presumably the centenary badge counts as an "occasional" badge does it?

I'm not sure he's quite up to it yet though I perhaps ought to get him started . What happens when they outgrow their sweatshirt - I suppose you have to pick them all off and start again - [hurries back to the shop to buy a much larger size....]

The blue centenary badge goes on the upper left chest - it is indeed an occasional.
Thank your lucky stars you have not been given the South London one, which is as thick as a carpet tile and features a large union jack . That diagram does not do justice to it huge size either
If your Colony is newly formed they may not have given you Colony badges etc yet (those are small, go on the sleeve and are easy to sew on.
Alan: ds and a needle = trip to A & E in record time I fear. He is not craft-enabled.

They are only in Beavers for two years. Then they move up to Cubs and you start all over again
I hope they make a go of it Saker. If I did not work outside the home full time I'd volunteer to help with Beavers like a shot. They all have a great time

Thanks. He is really enjoying it so far and very excited at the possibility of a sleepover in June (although that apparently means sewing a badge to a sleeping bag ...)

I feel a bit guilty for not volunteering but no-one to look after Ds2 who has special needs and can't really go along without being disruptive. But I don't think they have found anyone yet, just other local leaders helping out.

BADGE GLUE - like Hewletts Daughter I need it!! The badges are a bugger - just wait till he gets into the cubs - DS 1 has an armful, and DS2's ambiition is to get more than his brother. Each one represents, well, yeah, some effort on their part, but blood & pain on mine! bought a thimble (!!!) but still hurts like hell.

Also, LOL - Beavers uniform in the 'style' section...
