No idea why they don't have a UK site - it's very annoying isn't it?

SoupDragon · 04/03/2007 15:03

Oh, I've asked them this several times. It appears to be because they can't be ar$ed with us lesser non-US residents.

I can't remember the exact way they phrased it but that was how I interpreted the response given that so many other companies appear to be able to handle international shiping etc

At least you have Gap shops. Gap seem to have totally ingored the Celtic Tiger phenomenon in Ireland and have only grudgingly given in to a concession within a Dept Store in Dublin. Thats it. Otherwise you get to travel to Belfast, or across the sea...

It's also about time the UK GAP stores start selling their shirts in Tall sizes as they do in the US....

pooka · 05/03/2007 09:31

I also wish that Gap had an online store. Or that you could buy stuff on the US site for international shipping (can see why they wouldn't do that though - it's so much cheaper no doubt it makes financial sense to them for us Brits to schlep to the shops).

I wonder if that's the reason? That if they had a US and a UK online store, then the unfairness of the UK pricing would only be even more obvious.

KTeePee · 05/03/2007 09:42

Miffy, I believe that the reason Gap don't have any stores in Ireland is that there used to be a small chain of shops called The Gap there many moons ago (I remember them from my teenage years ) and it is something to do with the owner of those shops still having the rights to the Gap name in Ireland (but that could just be an urban legend of course!)

Nice one Cod.

Its such a shame also suprising. They're losing out so much.
I dread to think how many miles away my nearest Gap would be.
I reckon around 30 miles.

I agree Pooka. It seems to be the case that in the US, GAP is an affordable brand that produces quality simple clothes. Here, it's expensive....?

pooka · 05/03/2007 11:26

I heard that that's why they wont introduce Banana Republic over here. Because here Gap occupies the niche in terms of expense that Banan Republic occupies over in the US. And that to maintain the brand, it would be necessary to price the BR products higher than the Gap products, but that in the UK this would price them out of the market.
At least that's what I heard.
Real shame, because I love Banana Republic.
