Are they all laughing at my new coat ...

it is a knee length check wool thingy with a split up the back - but the split is sewn together at the bottom (and in quite a thorough way - not just a loose stitch that you could pick undone) - am I supposed to undo it or do I wear it as it is? (Have vague memories of sewn-up-at-the-bottom-pleats in my school skirts that had to be undone once you got the skirt home!) Feeling a bit clueless here - are people sniggering at me for walking round with a sewn up split?!

unpick it!if you don't it looks like you have split your coat

MrsBadger · 01/03/2007 10:41

unpick it

I laughed at someone who hadn't unpicked theirs the other day
she looked very silly.

JackieNo · 01/03/2007 10:44

I laughed at someone the other day who was obviously wearing a new suit, and he'd left the label on that they sew on the outside of the sleeve. Looked v naff. He'd taken it off after lunch, so maybe someone had a quiet word.

ScummyMummy · 01/03/2007 10:49

Awwwww. If it's any comfort, mrs mike, i once walked along the road covered in shit, which I think is much worse.

Enjoy your unpicked coat.

I am VVV lucky - my friend manages a shop which sells cheap high stret fashion, she knows how everything is worn!

totaleclipse · 01/03/2007 10:54

I once complained to my boss that the pockets were fake in the new work suit he'd supplied, and rattled on about how I needed pockets for the job, after he finished laughing he told me they were sewn up and I just had to tug slightly to open them

TinyGang · 01/03/2007 10:55

Yes it's supposed to be unpicked. Pockets and splits are often sewn up on new things.

Saw a man the other day in new trousers with a piece of see through tape stuck on the leg at the back with the waist and leg size on

DimpledThighs · 01/03/2007 10:55

unpick it.

I wouldn't know either but sounds like it ought to be unpicked.

I once gave my ds a piggy back home from school along our mainish road where everyone goes along on the way home from school.

Got home and realised that he had hitched my skirt up when he got on my back so I had been displaying my panted bum all down the road.

MrsBadger · 01/03/2007 11:01

oh, never, never unpick pockets on suits.
If you do you end up putting things in them and ruining the line. Best not to have the temptation.

TinyGang · 01/03/2007 11:05

That's a good point you make there actually MrsB.

ROFL at DT's 'panted bum'

mrsmike · 01/03/2007 13:32

Thank you all (hurriedly hunting for scissors in office drawer). My instinct was that things should not be this way!

Well it was from Matalan! £20 in the sale. Black and dark purple check with a faint gold thread running through. And a huge run of industrial strength stitching in the split!
