What do I wear on a date????

NoCapes · 10/02/2017 16:38

I'm going on a date next week

I haven't been in a date since I was 18, I'm now 27 and have birthed 3 gigantic children
I spend my days crawling around the floor in baggy jumpers, jeggings and converse
If I go out then I go out out with friends and I wear a dress and heels
I need a middle ground somewhere but what?!
I think I'm too young to go down the 'jeans and a nice top' route but too old to wear a full on 'outfit' if that makes sense
If I'm going to start dating I need to find something that I'll feel comfortable in, but look nice and dare I say, a bit sexy? I don't know how to be sexy anymore Blush

Help oh wise ones - I'm lost

I love that. Was going to suggest black, simple silhouette because it makes me feel grown up, never under- or over-dressed and just confident. Exciting for you! Smile

River island have bkack coated leggings that are very flattering, comfy and trendy.

Those with high ankle boots and a nice top

FireAshIce · 10/02/2017 19:45

I was in a similar situation to you earlier this week.

First date in 8 years (I'm 28) and i wore black skinny jeans and a slightly shimmery top with heels. I tried to find something I was myself in so that I didn't feel self conscious or keep fiddling through the night

Good luck with the date

PitilessYank · 10/02/2017 22:21

I love that culottes outfit-it shows a lovely bit of leg, and looks very modern. Any full leg cropped pants would work to achieve that look.

nigelforgotthepassword · 11/02/2017 11:23

Ah but are the culottes a bit out there? Now I'm not one to advocate dressing for a man, and I don't.But at the same time a culotte is something women love (I do), and men almost universally are put off by. How fashion forward is your boy capes?

skippy67 · 11/02/2017 11:40

Love the culottes outfit! Where's it from?

SomewhereNow · 11/02/2017 11:46

Why would she want to look 'cute,? She's not 5 Confused. I'm pretty clueless OP but go for something you feel comfortable (physically and mentally) in and good luck :).

BusterGonad · 11/02/2017 11:59

Op have you loooked at Oasis? They have some lovely things and I think they are aimed at women in their 20s to 30s, I love it and I'm 38 but not ready for Boden and Faceface etc quite yet!

BusterGonad · 11/02/2017 12:05

What about any of these 2? I would personally wear one of my flowery dresses and knee high boots but my taste isn't always everyone else's.

What are your best bits? Everyone recommends the skinny jeans/top thing but it definitely suits apple shapes better than pears/hourglass. Shops - I like Topshop, Zara and Warehouse.

TheCakes · 11/02/2017 16:12

Do you have a biker jacket? I'd go for a dressy dress and leather jacket.

HoHumming · 11/02/2017 18:13

In the interview thread, somebody posted a Warehouse flippy black dress. The hem was lower at the back than the front. I think it looked really nice. For me, more for night time than an interview/ work but of course it depends on the work environment.

Otherwise I think black coated jeans look sexy and quite dressy with heels? I wear mine with a black knit long sleeved jumper but that might not suit for a big night out.

nigelforgotthepassword · 11/02/2017 19:48

I don't mean cute like a 5 year old.Where I'm from 'cute' means 'nice 'as in the American usageSmile

OldLibrary · 11/02/2017 22:09

I agree about the culottes thing; women like, men don't.

alicedrablow · 19/02/2017 09:25

nocapes what did you wear on your date, and, more importantly, how did the date go???

Crunchyside · 19/02/2017 13:52

Yes yes, spill the beans, how did it go? Smile

WicksEnd · 19/02/2017 17:57

I'll tag her 😀 @NoCapes
Come and spill the beans! What did you wear and how did it go?????

NoCapes · 19/02/2017 20:40

Haha sorryyyy didn't see this!

I ended up in black coated jeans (? Coated? The shiny ones?) kind of khaki green heels, a khaki cami thing with an attached choker and I had a blazer on but only for the journey
I went with comfortable and not too far from the 'me' that he asked out

The date went really well, hes lovely I actually felt a bit uncomfortable at times because it's been a really long time since a guy was nice to me and actually seemed interested in me and what I had to say - had to give myself a bit of a shake!
But yes, as first dates go I'd say it was a good one Grin

The culottes outfit I posted above was Megan McKenna for Miss Pap by the way, they have a few different colours
I had no idea men didn't like culottes, I love them, I'm going to order that outfit next month anyway Smile

I also really liked the culottes, just wondered about it for a first date.
So glad it went wellSmileSmile
Go on girl!! X

alicedrablow · 20/02/2017 18:48

I went with comfortable and not too far from the 'me' that he asked out

Good decision!

FWIW my first date went well too (tunic dress & tights). Maybe it's all about feeling comfortable and relaxed????

NoCapes · 20/02/2017 19:28

alice sorry I forgot to ask about yours!
So glad it went well, yes I think having an air of false confidence is the key Smile

Thanks nige Grin
