80's Fancy Dress... Help!!

Me and DH have been invited to a 30th birthday party in March. Fancy dress. "Oh yay!" I thought, "I love fancy dress!" So there I am googling neon leg warmers and tutu's, when DH informs me that the theme is actually 1987. Yep, just 1987 Hmm

Now I've had a google, and the only thing I have found is that Dirty Dancing was released in '87. But I'm thinking that everybody will be going as that.

So clever people of Mumsnet, does anyone have any ideas? We'd preferably like something that we can go as together, but this is not a necessity.

You should go as David Bowie from The Labrinthe. [helpful face]

That was 1986, although it was December, so you could get away with it! I would love to go to a party as Labyrinth Sarah in her ballgown, although Sarah in jeans would be much easier.

Christian Slater / Winona Ryder in Heathers? (1988 but close enough . . .)

Thank you all so much for your ideas! I'd quite like us to go as something together for extra impact Grin so I'm thinking Fatal Attraction/Heathers/Dynasty at the mo

Ive also got an 80,s night to go to, so have looked at some of the ideas put on here ☺

You could go as Bros.

KingMortificadosMistress · 08/02/2017 00:10

Buy a cheapo B&Q/Home Base type DIY boiler suit.
Spray paint "Ministry of Truth" on the back in stenciled black paint.
Then in a bright colour (yellow/red) artistically add in a jaunty angle "+3")

ie. 1984 + 3 years

or fashion a cage strapped to your head with velcro, add a couple of toy furry mice (expect toy rats hard to come by) and add a dangling from a ribbon cardboard "+3" badge.

KingMortificadosMistress · 08/02/2017 00:13

In fact - you could be Julia and your DH could be Winston (with the rat cage)

King Ooh I like those ideas. DH doesn't want to go as something 'boring and predictable' so I think he'd get on board with one of your ideas
